Someone know if there is any way to stop kitchens from adding 'Render fat' to their list all the time?

Should be under the auto-task options in the (o)rders menu.

It's there, but the command is broken - turning it off doesn't prevent fat from being rendered automatically.  Since a single rendering job only uses up a single unit from a stack, and large creatures can create stacks of dozens of units of fat, this can leave your kitchens tied up rendering fat for a long time.  I've gotten in the habit of dumping and forbidding fat until I specifically need to make tallow.

I've built the cages, used them to make rooms, but I can't set them to the justice setting. I see the word, but it's not lit up. I have a captain of the guard, and a bunch of criminals (a few survived their beatings). What am I missing?

suspending the render job will prevent the game to automatically queue more of it. Other jobs will still be processed, so you lose nothing.

Holy crap.  I was poking around magmawiki and saw this:

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Basking_shark

625 meat off of one critter... That all drops in one stack too, I bet.

Even without a quality multiplier... a well prepared meal involving that stack would feed a fortress (of 200) for what... a season?  What would the value of that be?  Is this as close to artifact-output a kitchen will ever get?

Totally worth building the lock-trap to get one!

anyone? :/ Is it possible to find an area with a moderate/warm climate without an aquifier with flux available :S
or would that be like the holy grail or something?

You need to mod the aquifer out and stop using the site finder tool. That one simply doesn't work. Go over all tiles manually. But first use the modding method on aquifers as explained here (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Aquifer#The_modding_method) and gen a new world.

Ah, thanks a lot!

Yeah, Find has never worked for me, just does nothing.

Modding out aquifers was easy and effective.

It's not that hard but I think you'll have to do it manually.

Just scroll around in the temperate regions but stay away from areas with massive river systems.

So a theif jsut stole 3 of my artifacts.  Although they wont be missed because i wasnt going to use them, 1 of them did have a rather cool engraving on it.  Would it be possible to enter adventure mode and track down/find the artifact somehow or is it lost forever?  (does the artifact still exist?)

It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

I'm pretty sure it still exists. You may be able to find them by visiting nearby locations of the civ that stole them.
I could be wrong.

My dwarves are refusing to mine out this room.  They are not restricted by a burrow, they are miners, they have picks, theres is nothing causing them to cancel the task, they have access to the room, their not doing anything else, and there are no warm or wet rocks nearby.  How can i fix this?

Another question, if I have my dwarves on [NO_EAT] and [NO_DRINK] could I delete those and not have to restart?
