Soo... My dwarf has been unconcious for awhile now. He seems to be missing a foot and a hand, as well as having another body part(Arm or leg) in yellow. It says as his current "job" that he's resting. I'm starting to wonder now if it's time to take him off life support?
check his health status and see if there're anything else your doc can do for him
Erm... How do |I do that?

[v]-[z]-[h], you need a chief medical dwarf ([n]) for this.

If hes actually missing a foot (its grey on his wounds list under 'v', 'w') then hes never gonna move and will rest forever because crutches dont work.

The only exception to this is that if the dwarf is selected for a mood he will awaken, crawl to a workshop, do the usual moody stuff and then return to his bed when the artifact is done.  At which point he is genuinely useless

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

Urg... I seem to frequent this thread a lot >.<
A lot more than I'd like to. So one of my dwarves has gone into a strange mood. And has a list of a whole whack of things. The one I'm confused about is that he had dwarn a picture of a Quarry Is he wanting stone? Or something else.

I'm in a badlands embark with a fish-filled river (both vermin fish and creature fish, which has me slightly worried about DEATH BY LAMPREY). If I were to make a (grated-off) ditch from the river into an underground hole and set that as a fishing zone, would my dorfs be able to catch things there? I'm playing 31.16

Yes, but in case you dont know, the river will try to fill the hole to its level so i hope it's not somewhere deep under your fortress.

Still working out the kinks of my military and I'm having morale problems. Soldiers were getting cave adapted and throwing tantrums after I made them fight outside, so I've given them a greenhouse barracks.

Now, however, I'm seeing soldiers (often the very same soldier) both complaining about "being kept on duty too long" and about "being relieved from duty." What do they want from me?! If they're going to get mad whenever I take them off active duty, how can I prevent them from being on duty "too long"? Is this just something that I have to accept? :/

Re water pressure.
This can be prevented by adding a diagonal jag to the channel, like this

XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX
          X

Edit: Give the dwarves some crafting skills. Then they won't complain about leaving duty.

Is it possible to channel out a ditch into a brook? Reason I'm asking is I have a brook that I 1) want to divert temporarily to add "filters" too and 2)deepen so I can use waterwheels.

The plan is to do this:
Code: [Select]
- = solid ground, W = water/brook, c= Channel?

That should work. Just make sure the channels go somewhere, else they will just fill up and have no flow.

afaik "Being relieved from duty" happens when a dwarf has no civilian skills.

similar to how dwarfs with no military skills complain about being drafted.
