Two questions:

1: Noble mandate for raw adamantine items. Can this be fufilled by extracting strands.

2: Since updating from .08 to .16, I have issues with using the mouse to designate mining areas. This is both for old fort saves and a couple new tests. Mouse clicking actually designating anything seems to be spotty at best and only work on the top half of the screen. Any ideas?

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.

Will a lignite wall or floor ignite when introduced to magma?

1) No.  turn off its economic status and make a trio of goblets out of a rock.  that should fulfill the mandate
2) No idea.

No.  Constructions are immune to temperature at the moment.

My turn:
How much water is needed to form ice?  will 1/7 form a full block like 7/7?
How much magma do I have to drop water on to form an obsidian tile?  same deal...1/7 work?

1/7 water will form an ice floor when frozen, I believe that 2/7 or above will form a full ice wall, which can then be remelted into 7/7.  To make an obsidian wall, the absolute minimum is 1/7 of water and 1/7 of magma, with one dropped onto the other.

Hi there, I have 2 little questions. Answers or pointers in the right direction are welcome:

1. Clothing my dwarves have "lost" is lying around in my fortress. Via order I set to reclaim all the stuff, but it does not count for stuff before I set the order. So, how do I get my dwarves to pick up clothing from dead dwarves? They dont touch it, nor dump it.

The clothing is forbidden, which is signified by the {brackets} outside the name when you "k" over the tile. To reclaim (unforbid) individual items, you can use the "c" key in the k menu. There is also a mass-designation tool in the designate menu.

Sorry, but no. The clothing is not forbidden. It is just the (imported) stuff from a dwarf who died. I can not dump it either - no one is touching that damn stuff. Also there is clothing laying around from other dead dwarfs and lots of clothing from children. It seems that everything a dwarf drops, regardless the reason (death, madness, unhappyness), is forever damned and can not be picked up by anyone.

Made me think of Yossarian and Mudd :D
I solve this with DFLiquids and magma

I have two questions. I didn't get any goblins or kobolds showing up at all, so I assumed there simply were no goblins alive in that world. Same with elves, none appeared at all. Could this be true?

And if I create a new world and look at the civilizations, I see elves, humans, dwarves and goblins, but goblins have a red line of - - - - behind them. What does this mean? I just want to make sure I can start on a map that will have goblins.

Thanks.

the red ---- means that civ is at war with your home civ.

Also to the guy above me mentioning designating with a mouse, for me the bottom 1/4 of the screen has always been unusuable when clicking to designate (played from .12 onwards).

If i want to designate tiles in the bottom 8-10 rows then i have to use the cursor or shift-scroll down a few times to bring the area into the 'clickable' part of the screen

If you want to fix that bug with designations not working for the mouse-mode just press F11 (fullscreen) and F11 again. At least that fixed it for me both times it happened. Maybe that'd work for both of you, though for me it was only a temporary random problem that occured mid-game.

Ah thanks. Now I know at least that they exist. =]

Do the modifier keys no longer work for key bindings?

I'm trying to remap the arrow keys to wasd+shift

eg: so left would be shift+a (also tried shift+A)

but its not working for me

Also is there any utility that makes mapping keys easier? Its the most frustrating thing in the game for me.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I'm still figuring out the intricacies of the new medical system.

A soldier took a stab wound to the foot while mopping up a goblin thief, chipping the bone and sending him to the hospital. Now, his Treatment History reads, "Evaluated; Cleaned; Sutures; Dressing; Plaster Cast." Status says, "No health problems," he has no treatments scheduled, but he won't get out of bed! He's been "Rest"ing in the hospital for months. What's missing? His 'z'>"Health" sheet is totally clean.

His "Wounds" lists reads as, "left foot, skin; left foot, fat; left foot, muscle; has been sutured." In his medical history, the wound-cleaning is in blue type and the sutures are in red. Does that mean a novice botched the sutures? Is that why he won't get up and go back to work?

Advice or clarification much appreciated!

He can't walk until the would is fully healed. He SHOULD be able to get by with a crutch, but those don't work right now.

Personally I'd make statues.  Or maybe doors.  Something that can be built to impress wandering dwarves.

If the noble wants more than one item, goblets are best.

What is the capacity of barrels, bins, bags, quivers, backpacks and waterskins in Dwarf Fortress mode? It seems to vary a lot, and I'm confused. Bins, barrels and bags help a lot with storage, but I'd still like to know how they work exactly.

btw, has anybody noticed that dwarves that normally cant walk from losing legs and stuff, walk *fine* if they get a strange mood? fine meaning they walk slowly ofcourse, but they do walk. strangely, once they're done picking their mats and making their thing, someone has to pick them up again and put them in a hospital. and they dont use crutches either.

They crawl if they get a mood, because they're fanatically obsessed. Once the mood is over, they are sane enough to go "my legs don't work! HELP!"
