If I make a bunch of bins, will my moronic dwarves store the food there, instead of all the barrels I need for booze?

How do I use someone else's savegame, downloaded? I put the region folder in data\save- game didn't seem to be able to see it. Tried renaming it from "region5" to "region3"- this being the next sequential number among my saves, but this didn't help. Ran Phoebus' save game updater- this didn't have any obvious effect either.

I have a meeting hall with tables and chairs. I want to make it at a dining room too. Do i have to select just one table and press 'dining room' and resize it to cover the whole room, or select every table and cover just the table and the chair near it or select every table and cover the whole room?
First thing you want to do is remove the "meeting hall" zone. Dining rooms act as meeting halls themseves, and it is easier to turn it off if you need to that way. Second, a room includes all furntiure within it's boundary. Rooms that overlap are considered "shared" and have their value halved. Thus you should do ONE table.

I believe you're mistaken. I happened to have a dining hall that was also a meeting area, and as soon as I removed the meeting area zone, any dwarf that wasn't eating left immediately.

After designating a dining room you have to make it a 'meeting room' (press 'm' i think). Similar to the way you designate barracks or dormitory from a bed.

I've got other questions.
1. How to melt ice with magma without turning it into obsidian ?
2. What type of armor is better now: iron or bronze ? I know that recently bronze became better than iron for weapons, but does it apply to armor too ?

You have to run the magma under the ice so it does not make direct contact.

But it has to be separated by a magma-safe floor, right ?

No, as long as it's not pure ice. Even soil will be fine.

No, food cannot be stored in bins.  What you want to do is create a food stockpile, set it to take everything but booze, and then set maximum barrels to zero on that stockpile.  Then create a stockpile that only accepts booze, and set maximum barrels to max allowed on that one.  Your dwarves will store booze in barrels and everything else not in barrels.

Does it have an embark? See if you can 'start' playing on the world, instead of 'continue'.

So, i find this dwarf child walking around my fortress, i read his preferences, find out he's eight, and then at the end, it says "Needs alachol to finish the working day" Arent kid's not allowed to have alchahol?

Dwarf babies need alcohol.

They're born on the field of battle, next to magma, or with chips of rock flying into their faces.  Instead of holding them upside down and spanking their bottoms, they have alcohol shoved down their throats to BURN the mucus away.

You completely missed the point that was being made here: "Needs alcohol to finish the working day."
Everyone knows that kids don't work.

I'll have you know that it's very tiring doing nothing all day.

In Adventure mode, how does biting works?

If I bite someone, and the attack "You latch on firmly" does that mean I should'nt attack him again? Or will I release my bite then?
And can I set so my adventurer allways bites? Instead of having to press 'shift + a' button every strike?

Items never block travel, so it's not because of too many items on the ramp. Ramps are tricky however, there needs to be a wall adjacent to the ramp for the dwarf to be able to use the ramp to change levels.
