Can I potentially lose an adamantine ore if an unskilled miner digs it?
Yes.

Doesn't adamantine always leave ore even with 0-skill miners?

As far as I know, adamantine functions just like any other rock/ore. It might be different, but I've never heard of it before.

On the embark screen, are all volcanoes visible or is there a possibility that a volcano is on a river tile that shows up as such and not a volcano symbol?

How do I install the necessary libraries to run DF in Ubuntu using apt-get? Synaptic lags worse than DF in wine on my system for some unfathomable reason.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Volcanos cover up rivers.

Do windmill need to be outside or just above ground?
The center tile needs to be outside.

Set garbage dump zone, press k, go over body, press d.
Or, set a graveyard stockpile.

In 40d adamantine tiles would always leave raw adamantine rock when mined regardless of the skill of the miner.  AFAIK this has not changed in 31.

Confirmed. Mining adamantine is guaranteed to leave behind a stone.

Much. Adamantine is quite simply the best metal for armor and edged weapons.

Just DL'd this game a few days ago and wow is it confusing. The wiki and the video tutorials have been helping clear most things up, but I still have a few questions.

1. Is there any way to view more of the world map than just the area immediately around my starting point? I seem to only be able to see about 200x200 tiles or so. Am I limited to building/playing in this area? Is there any way to view the world outside this area?

2. I had read several places that if I go down deep enough there will also be magma. I have gone down as far as the game will allow (-9) and I do not see any magma? Do I need to send a dwarf digging his way down there to be able to see it? Same goes for the underground caves I don't see any at all. Do I need to dig down at random until I run into one to be able to see it?

3. I am over 3 years into the game and I have yet to be attacked by anything. No goblins, no aggressive wildlife, no nothing. Do I need to trigger it somehow? My dogs have killed harmless things like rats and dragonflies, but that's it.

4. When I use the repeat command in the workshops they only repeat the order until they run out of materials. Then the order is deleted entirely. Is there a way to keep the order permanently? So if they run out of materials they just wait until they have more to work with and then continue building?

5. I have cut down all the trees in the viewable area. Is there a way to find more other than waiting for traders to come with wood for sale?

Thanx for any answers in advance.  ;)
