So I was fighting a weaponless serpentman vs a kobold in some bronze armor in the arena. After a few unsuccessful bite attempts, the serpent man somehow ended up with a piece of the kobold's armor in his hand and proceeded to beat him to death with it.  Is this a normal side effect of biting/grappling or a bug?

It may be possible that the serpent man simply ripped off the armor.  It has already been established that clothes can be torn off, and kobolds are not especially strong.  The beating-to-death part is common, though.

By the way, once a DM has tamed something (Bear, for example), what can I do with it?

All is going well in dwarf land, until i start do do some work orders. "rock*exit*. Aww shit"

So, is there anyway to revert exiting from the work order search screen specifically to something other than space, or should i start getting used to escape?
Hold shift while typing and spaces will work.
(well, unless you bind shift+space to something :p)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Basically, you can either butcher it without having to worry about the bear-related death of your butcher, you can set up a breeding program where you have lots of bears and a happy butcher, or you can set up a War Bear program.

This War Bear business intrigues me.  If you would be so kind, I would like to know:

How to release bears from cages

How to train bears for war

Many thanks.

1) Get the DM
2) Catch bears in cages
3) Tame them
4) Train war animal
5) Invent the laser.

Thanks, but I've hit a bit of a snag.

It lists my training options as "War Dog" and "Hunting Dog".  Generic "Animal" tasks stretch only to include capturing and taming.

Do war animals breed? I bought a pair of mandrills, one of each gender, and trained them to be war mandrills. However, there haven't been any babies after years. Should I have left them as normal tame animals?

Trained Animals do breed. Only case animals do not breed is when caged.

The action extends to animals of the non-doggie persuasion, though it still goes by the description of "train war/hunting dog".

There are many issues with this statement.

I think maybe there's a problem. I also trained a pair of war elephants that I bought but they won't breed either. Maybe traded animals are sterile  >:(

What's the stockpile to store empty cages? I can't find it. Definitely not furniture.

Worked fine in 40d, unless this is also bugged.
