I was wondering how to generate a world, or even just one site that has only one cavern layer which is near the top/middle of the underground z levels so I can build underneath that.  It would also be nice if the site had a river and trees are always welcome.  If someone could tell me what I need to do to make a site like that or even just has a save they could throw up that would be great.

Does anyone have a world gen with a dead dwarf civilization so that I can have no migrants? Thanks.

Alright, so I currently have version 0.31.10. which I think I got maybe 2 weeks back or so. So pretty new. Now, if I was to update myself to the most current version, would my save be corrupted at all? I don't want to lose my work.

Also, when I go to download, I always get SDL Windows. But what's Legacy? What's different about it than SDL, and what does SDL even stand for? I really never thought about it until now.

0.31.10 is the most current version.

Assuming you actually have an earlier version, as long as it's one of the 31.xx versions you should be able to just copy the save game folder over.

How can I get cats to follow their dwarven masters so that I can impale them?

How do I get the dwarves to pick up an item. In this case a left over flood gate.  I just want to get it out of the middle of my soon to be (i hope) farm.

Create a furniture stockpile. The dwarves should haul the floodgate to it.

If you're desperate to kill a cat who has already adopted a dwarf, set up a winding entrance pathway in front of several ballistae, and make that the only way in or out except when it's time to trade with a caravan.

More importantly, if the only cats that have adopted anyone are male, you're probably ok. Just kill all of the females except the youngest and keep it caged until you need to breed more cats. I prefer butchering them. Cat leather, bones for my crossbows, soap for my hospitals, etc.

My dwarfs won't harvest the blade weeds they planted. What the hell. They planted more seeds UNDER the fully grown blade weed plants. They won't even dump 'em. I deconstructed the farm plot and rebuilt it, and that got the mature plants out of the way but nobody would put them in a barrel or anything. Do they maybe not go in a food stockpile?

Do camels (both the one-hump and the two-hump varieties) produce off-spring?

Blade weed is used for dye. It is not edible, and therefore, not a food item.

So... what happens if you have multiple trade depots?

I assume they go to the closest available.

Even dye plants go in the food stockpile by default.

I've got a 'finished goods' pile. is furniture any different?
