Hmm, I think I have a problem.

My civ has no important leaders.

That probably explains me getting 9 immigrants before winter. So... how do I encourage bow chicka wow wow?

Also, is there any way to see if the humans, elves, other dwarves, or even friendly gobbos are still around, short of abandoning, checking the site, and then starting again?
If they trade with you by next year, then they are alive.

Waiting isn't fun...

Ok, I just have to put this somewhere.

One of my dwarves adopted a kitten and named it Urist.

You don't use a still why?

Another oddity!

On level 101 in the volcano lava, it says "Muddy open space."

Is the game high?

You could forbid 'em.

Solution: grow more plants.

Just checked. They're not forbidden, and they're 4 Z-levels underground. =/ Is it a bug? Because don't dwarves also usually move rocks aside if they're blocking where a building is to be built?
Do you have a section of wall that isn't built yet?

Because the only time a dwarf won't move a rock to build a table is when that rock is destined for another job, and mostly that means construction. This would also explain why they aren't being dumped. They're in limbo and nothing will happen until you a) end the construction job using those rocks or b) remove the dump and wait for the construction to get done.

Yeah, there are tons of sections that lie dormant until my wrath cancels and reapplies the task.  I wondered that myself.  Could the 4 catapults training my engineers and doubling as stone movers be complicating the process too much for the game to keep ahold of?

I've got a miner that I accidentally drafted into a squad training in the barracks. He's just doing it nonstop, and doesn't even belong to a squad anymore. What do?

I doubt it.

But it sounds like you've got an awful lot of jobs that could be using that stone. You have two options.

1) Cancel or suspend every single one of those jobs, un-dump tyhe stone, wait a few minutes to make sure it takes, then re-dump the stone. Re-create all stone-using jobs after your little twits have moved it.

2) Undump the stone, and wait a few game months or game-years. Eventually the dwarves will get around to doing whatever they're supposed to do with it.

This is a known bug (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=127).  It's probably not a bug-fixing priority, but it should get better eventually.

So I made my first attempt in pump stacking, successful...for a while

I got 7/7 water pump from 32 z levels but...only a single square, the windmill says
Total Power: 20
Total Power Needed: 320.

Wat, how do I get 300 power?

Windmills don't provide very much power. For your needs, you'll want to use water wheels, each of which provide 100 power.
