If you mean going from 0.31.x to 0.31.10 then just copy the save folder from the old version to the new version. It's that simple.

It would probably also be a good thing to copy the contents of Raw\Objects from the new game directory into the Raw\Objects of your saved game directory.  It will be a bunch of txt files.  That way you get the benefit of any changes to the raws in the new version.

How much of my precious resources does the average Urist consume (leaving my valuable miners with less) in a year? Like booze, food, and magma anything else.

And does the ground need to be muddy for above-ground farming? I want to supplement my dwarves' diet with different kinds of liquor.

About 2 food per season and a bit more than 4 drinks per season.

They drink more than they eat.

Somehow, I'm not surprised.

How in hell do I train?
My dwarf is standing in the barracks quarters with no weapon in Civ Mode and No Job assignment... Please, if you could step by step tell me how to train...

Do I have to cancel all orders in Schedule and Alerts?
Do I have to set in the barracks cabinet train?
What are the options in those items? Like Squad Eq, Indiv Eq and Position???

Here's what I do.

1) I make a Militia Captain from the Nobles screen.

2) I go to the military screen, make a squad from him, and select the Metal Uniform.

3) I build a Weapons Rack in a strategic place, such as right behind my drawbridge.

4) I make it a barracks,  and set the newly created squad to training there.

What's the difference between bucklers and shields? Also, do crossbowmen utilize them at range?

Shields provide a better defensive bonus than bucklers. Misunderstood the second question, nevermind, I have no clue.

Shields are bigger, so they protect better.

AFAIK Crossbowdwarves can't use shields while they're firing because their hands are full. This wouldn't be hard to test in the arena. Have two squads of crossbowdwarves face off. Arm them identically except give one squad shields. Repeat. If the guys with shields consistently win shields are a good idea.

And since bucklers are handless (irl) then they should be able to use them, right?

Also, can wagons cross brooks like dwarves, animals, etc?

Are heavier materials better for whips?  I have an iron whip and a silver whip, and I'm not sure which one to give to the new migrant Lasher.

Edit:  Nevermind, figured it out.
