Is there anyway to remove buzzards from DF?
Open creature_large_temperate.txt file in raw/objects/ and delete the [CREATURE:BIRD_BUZZARD] entry.

I already tried that; In a game which already has buzzards on the map it wont affect them and for some reason just re-adds the buzzard entry. But changing the body temperature worked anyway.

I think my outpost liaison died or something. It's year 3 and he hasn't visited me once yet. I haven't even got the prompt at the bottom along with the caravan telling me he came.

Does he get replaced sometime?

could someone tell me what the difference is when the "individual combat drill" indicator in a dwarves gen profile is yellow or a type of dark green? I've noticed both and I'm wondering if theres any significance

As of 0.31.08, are special map features still as excessively common as they were in the initial release?

Nothing regarding feature generation has been changed.

What's a 'special' map feature? Genuinely curious.

Since picks are not weapons, being a good miner makes you attack better with picks. Does being a good woodcutter help your axe-ing in any way?

No, woodcutting and axedwarf are separate skills.

My carpenter got a fey mood, and is screaming for body parts and logs.

I slaughtered several animals for the bones etc, and have more fishing in the brook (for shells, this works right?). There is a refuse pile right next to him, and since he took over my carpenter shop, there is a substansial pile of chopped down trees beside him. Why isn't he making an artifact?

edit: nevermind, she went batshit crazy.

Shells are a lot harder to get now, and typically that's what my dwarves seem to need when they ask for body parts.

I am a total noob, this is my second fort. I've set up everything niceyly up, but I have a problem with layers. I went something like 10 layers down, and all I get from ores is some lead, copper and zinc ores. This hinders my metal industry, as I do not have coal (I do with charcoal now), tin for Bronze nor Iron ores. I suppose I am in a sedimentary layer? Is there a way to check whether there are better layers down there? I am worried a bit not to brake into a cavern, as I do not have a military yet...

Fuel, refined coal, and just coal are three in-game terms that refer the same thing, any unit of charcoal or coke

Source: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Coal#ixzz0t5XpFwSD

Make it in Wood Furnace(b>e>w) with logs of wood. Make sure to activate Wood Burning Labor(v>p>l>Farming Related>Wood Burning).

Question
I guess it's a bug, don't know...
I made a Millstone two layers bellow surface, made a Windmill in the surface(generating 40 power) and made a Vertical Axis between both

W -> surface windmill
V -> -1z Vertical Axis
M -> -2z Millstone

The axe is getting power from the windmill but the millstone isn't...

I just got this message a few moments ago:

Weaver cancels Weave Thread into Cloth: Needs 15000 collected plant thread.

Is that normal?

DF also crashed two of the last three times I played, recently. The crash happened during save when it got to "cleaning up..." but apparently the data was already written (I continued later).

Yeah, it means you need to plant more Pig Tails(or any other thread plant) and process them at the farmer's workshop.

Thanks. What does the 15000 mean? :o
