Hey guys. Even though there are game on my map such as hoary marmots, my hunters will not hunt anything. They just stand there. Any way to make them do something, or should I feed them to the earth's blood?

Can I place a magma-safe grate over the hole I use to pump up magma to prevent magma creatures from crawling out and fun-ifying my fort?

Try removing all of their labors then re-enabling only hunting. That made them hunt for me.

I got few stray dogs, but Urist McTrainer says that "There is no creature". Raws are unmodified, and i trained starting dogs at year 1, but now cant..

Are they adults?  They have to be adults before you can make them war dogs.

Hello.

Can I make the constructions material menu (b, C) sort by type instead of proximity to the build site? I don't want to build anything out of wood, but when making stuff outside the freshly-chopped logs show up on the top of the list.

EDIT: Also, how do I release an animal I bought from its cage?

The grate won't block the flow of magma, but any creature with buildingdestroyer can still bypass it. Fortifications are safer (but still not guaranteed).

You can't reorder the list. You can stop all wood appearing by forbidding it from the stocks menu before building.

To release your creature, build the cage, then q over the cage, assign, then press enter on the current occupant. A dwarf will release it soon.

Hello, I've been playing DF for about a month now. So, I am a fairly new player.
Here is my question: is there anywhere a list of labors where skill affects or the product/work quality (or a list of labors where skill doesn't affect quality). I've been looking for something like that from the wiki and tried using the forum search tool but didn't find anything. Maybe I didn't just search hard enough. Such list would be really helpful.

There's a goblin in my lava moat, he's just standing there and he's been in there for around two seasons. His combat logs just say he's submerged in a lava pool. But my dwarves are still scared and get unhappy thoughts from walking outside because he's under the bridge. Will he ever die?

EDIT: Just noticed he's shooting some of the dwarves as they run past as well.

EDIT2: Theres now over 100 pages refering to him being stuck in a lava pool.

How to catch meself a giant eagle? I got one on my map, he is not attacking, just flying there and everywhere, often on ground level.

Yeah it is. But it's strange because I've seen others die in the magma. Maybe they drowned  :-\

EDIT: Turned on temperature and he created a nice little smoke puff. Thank you :)!!

Is there any list anywhere that shows how many bars of metal are used to create certain items, or is it always only 1? I'm bringing bronze bars on embark so I can forge a set of armour and battle axe ASAP, but I'm not sure how many I need to bring.

All armor and weapons currently take one metal bar to make.   Mail shirts should require 2, and breastplates should require 3, but due to a bug they actually only use 1.  See http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Armor
