When 2010 first came out, I read a post saying that pumps in a pump stack no longer transfer power vertically up/down the stack anymore, and it had to be done, rather inelegantly, with gear assemblies running up the side. Can anyone confirm if that was fixed in an update/never was the case and they work the same/whatever? If it's different than in the old version, any place I can find an example?

On a slightly related case, I see dwarves can walk through squares occupied by axles, I assume water can also travel through those squares. Will gear assemblies block dwarves and water? Will submerged axles/gear assemblies continue to function?

I'm not sure about drowning, I know most of the beasts I have encountered seemed amphibious at least.

It's all subjective. Some of them have a higher body temperature than magma. A monster could be immune to any one or all of those attacks, the likelihood decreasing as you go on with the list I gave until you come to obsidian forming (which nothing should be immune to).

It was never the case. The person who made that post made a design error.

Submergerd axles,etc. sould work fine.

How exactly can I get my dwarves to use forged picks and battleaxes again?  If my fortress is too large, do I need a Master Armorer?

Are you trying to use them as tools or weapons?

Just received the very strange message "OVERWROTE JOB: Kidnap BY Clean Self". Happened during an ambush, if that means anything.

Can someone explain to me how you can transfer a hostile creature from a cage to a restraint without it attacking/fleeing? Or is this impossible to do?

Report it as a bug. Someone's job to kidnap was interrupted by a newly generated job to clean themselves. Must have been a thief on your map.

Hi,
I'm new to the whole DF thing.  Only been playing with it for a few days. I think I have the older version (not sure).  I've been trying to make a draw bridge and can't seem to get it to work.  so far I have a bridge and I built a lever but I don't know what to do beyond that.

Thanks :)

Do they have the appropriate labours assigned? If so, disable and reenable theem.

On the main screen (before you load a game), it has the version #. if it ends in .40D, its the older version. if it is .31.03 or .31.04, its the new version.

for the bridge problem: you need two mechanisms (Mechanic's Workshop), then push Q and move to the lever. one of the options should be  "Link to Bridge" or close to that. you have to link the bridge to the lever, then Pull The Lever and your bridge should retract/extend.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Save the game and reopen it. That has worked for me in this version every time. But then, I haven't corrupted my files with utilities.

My still isn't producing any beer and I think it's because I haven't got any empty barrels. I've got a tonne load of plump helmets and they're stored in the barrels, I was wondering if I could somehow free up some barrels or will I have to make more?
