I have captured (and tamed) several horses.  But they are still in the cages from the cage traps.  How do I dump them?  I go into the cage contents screen and select (d)ump, but that just sets the cage to be dumped and it doesn't get dumped anyway.

1) Build a chain and assign the horse to the chain. Then you can unchain them easily.

2) Build the cage and attach it to a lever, and pull the lever.

So, the only stones on my map seem to be obsidian and gabbro (haven't found any kimberlite yet...). I dug further down, in hopes of finding ores. No luck. But lo! I have struck galena, and lots of it, by the looks of it!

So...lead armour. Viable?

Do you mean that I can't use it to make armour, or that it's just too heavy?

you can't use it for armor because it won't even let you make those - they're not on the list.
plus lead armor is probably only useful vs. FB's made of pitchblends ;)

I'm fairly sure you can mod metals to be able to produce other stuff (I've done it with zinc before - to make disc traps, I think). Eh...gonna hope I hit iron or that my weapon traps filled with obsidian short swords will hold the gobbos off long enough for me to get a proper amount of steel bars imported.

...or I could mod lead to be craftable into serrated discs.

HORSUS

I have captured (and tamed) several horses.  But they are still in the cages from the cage traps.  How do I dump them?  I go into the cage contents screen and select (d)ump, but that just sets the cage to be dumped and it doesn't get dumped anyway.

Any suggestions?

You can build the cage and then query it, and select assign, and then deselect the horse. You can then deconstruct the cage.

I'm sure I've noticed that if you assign a caged animal to a pasture, the dwarves will automatically take the animal from the cage. I could be wrong on this point though.
What can I actually use rock nut paste for?

I believe you put it through a press, one of the new small workshops, to turn it into oil, which can be used to make soap.

Meh...doesn't sound useful, I'm drowning in tallow and there's trees growing every third tile on this map, so I just use tallow to make soap for my nasty, grimy dwarves.

I heard something about using it to make animal feed?

As of now, only grazing animals need to eat (not counting tigermen, etc.), and they eat only grass.
Animal feed may be introduced in later versions.

Huh, alright. It's a pretty dwarfy thing to do, feeding a herd of squealing pigs blocks of grimy feed of dubious origin...

One more question. Wax. What stockpile is it stored in?

Edit: Nvm. The wax hadn't been pressed yet, which is why it wasn't being stored, I think.

Edit 2: Dwarfletic Doogaloo: So now there's wax honeycombs layin' around in my bee zone/pasture. Will dwarves do anything with 'em?

Hey, it works!  Thank you very much.
