Half my embarks on verified completely warm biomes have been freezing from early winter to late winter. Haven't touched raws and my world gens don't change the default values for anything temp related.
This a bug or am I missing something?

I think that altitude or even proximity to cold environments is important. I've had a warm desert that froze in the winter, and temperate grasslands that did not.

When do most people get regular forges set up? Mass production of metal? Magma forges?

You can use different stone types for different colours (kaolinite for traps, for example), or you can use the "N"ote feature, which gives the added benefit of allowing you to find a lever that you've lost.

I generally get one normal forge setup as soon as I've cleared my workshop general area, before the first caravan. That way if a strange mood happens I've got one setup already.
Magma smelters and forges come as soon as I feel I can punch through and wall off a cavern or two (generally 100+ stone blocks in reserve, 3x3 constructed staircase + outer walls x 5 levels), enough to get down to the magma sea.

What to make out of lead? I'm in abundance of every other valuable metal outside of aluminum, so what's the best thing to make out of all this lead?

Bins is about all I can think of, that or mod in lead ballista arrows.

My duke demands I make coins.  I make them out of lead.  They go in the coin storage room and don't move.

Workshops. Using regular stone for workshops means you have to be careful about forbidding all stone via the stocks menu. The most common item used to get around this is blocks, but if you have more lead than blocks lying around you might as well use that.

Or you could stud stuff with it, just to get it out of the way.

Question: does boiling happen all in one frame?

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Buying out caravans with coins, hrm....that sounds like a whole other world of realism excluding the fact that the coins are made out of a poisonous metal.

Can copper bolts be studded with lead, and would this matter in combat?

It wouldn't. Not sure about the first part of your question, though.

And yes, I second some earlier suggestions: make things like bins or barrels out of it (there's no lead poisoning in DF, plus you can always rationalize that dwarves would be immune), use it for decoration, build workshops out of it. In fact, I've been building all my workshops out of metal blocks for quite some time now. If they could be admired the way furniture is, I'd build my workshops out of gold or steel. Also, make things like walls, floors or bridges out of lead, just don't use those bridges for any magma-related tasks.

After the caravan comes to sell me an anvil (most always in the first autumn)
Magma forges after I hit the bottom, two years in if it's -40 three years in if it's -105
Mass production of metal starts after I pump the magma up to the bottom of my fortress. This can take anywhere from 2 years (-40) to make/install/pump the pumps to 5 years (-105). If the cavern layers are really twisted and full of FB's you can add another year to this.

All my pumpstacks over 30 pumps tall have been dwarf powered. I just got done with a 92 Z level dwarf powered pumpstack that, if I am correct in that the current fortress starts one year after you abandoned the last fortress, it's been 4 years. Of course I also had a 26x28x16 upside-down tower dug out, so that might of added to it. :p

I use lead for practice, then dump the abominable artwork down the magma chute. Unless you desperately want to store something without it going somewhere after the fortress's downfall, it's about as useful as orthoclase. Coins sound like a good idea, or at least a good joke, though.
