I seem to be having a problem with farming. No matter what I do, my farmer won't plant crops. I made sure he had the necessary seeds and a proper farming plot, but he refuses to plant the seeds in them. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
Did you irrigate the plots before setting them up?
Have you hit 'q' and set the seeds to be planted each season in the plot itself?
I haven't tried underground tiles yet because all of my irrigation projects have been spectacular failures. However, I do know that above ground farming isn't working for me. I tell the dwarves which seeds to plant, but they never do it. If I turn off everything aside from farming, my farmer just defaults to "No job". This is probably an error on my part, but I can't figure out what it is. In the previous version I was able to farm easily, but now I can't.
I've had similar problems, but I think its that when I order my dwarves to gather plants, all the plants they gather - wether they are grown plants or just seeds - appear in the farm menu.
I haven't yet tried building a fresh fortress and immediately building a plot to see if the plants all appear on the farm menu, but I suspect its one fo two reasons:
1) you are ordering them to plant crops that you don't have seeds for, but do have
plantsfor. If you get your dwarves to eat them, or brew them, you should get seeds and then be able to plant them.
2) the farm menu shows all available crops, wether that is all,
period or all available on that map.
I have no idea if any of the above is right, but its a theory.
ETA: sorry just read the part where you said you checked you had the seeds.
Sorry man, not sure what the problem might be
note to self: read the goddamn question before answering it!
