Thank you for your anwsers. So making clothes is basically a perfect way to waste adamantine... :(
Anyone knows how long it takes for clothes to lose value. My fortress is only 5yrs old and most of the time I resuply from the imigrants dying at the gates. :D
Also, this may be a stupid question at this point, but how do you specify what is put in a chest. I want some gypsum moved to the hospital, but I can't figure out how to.

Gypsum will never be moved to the hospital.  This is a bug.  Store your gypsum in a stockpile.  Or don't, making plaster casts is buggy and takes some micromanaging to get to work right anyway.

I've got a little problem, I was caught unprepared by goblin ambush, so I drafted 10 of my 20 dwarves into military (including my legendary miners) and had them wrestle the goblins to death. They succeeded in tearing goblins' brains out (literally), which is nice. But after i disbanded the whole squad they won't come back to normal work. Is there any workaround or something? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? Having half of my dwarves just slacking off is going to be a real drawback for my fortress ;)

did you cancel the orders?  open the squad and press o, only thing i can think of

my question is that my spearmaster just got motor nerve damage in a unfortunately placed shot from a lasher, is this dwarf now useless as a warrior or will they eventually move and work again?

I disbanded the whole squad, they all have 'no job' in their current task.

AFASK, dwarves haven't got to spinal microsurgery yet, so Urist McNerveDamage usually sits around complaining for the rest of the game. Sometimes they come back, but usually not.

Secret is to remove them from the military, as they will still show up as an active soldier on the squads screen.  Figured this out once when 9 of a squad got major damage against a FB, and only one turned out against the goblins later...  Did not end well...

Would it be a good idea to shove my ten-Dworf strong lowly trained 'adequate' marksdwarf militia down a downward passage? What manner of beast lurks there?

And for the rest? :P

Gonna explore the second cavern layer a bit more, first, before going down that passage.

What, the third layer so soon? It's only a few levels beneath the second one, then.

yeah, depending on worldgen you can have cavern 1 2 layers below air, cavern 2 at 1 level below cavern 1, cavern 3 a level below cavern 2, and the magma sea 1 level below that, and some place only 1 z-level below that (no adamantine, sorry!) (<== my spoiler)

Couple of important defense questions:
-wiki says that aquatic creatures can swim through fortifications(but land creatures can't walk though them? makes no sense but hey it's DF). Question is; how much liquid must be present? Does it have to be 7/7 on either side or will a simple 1/7 puddle suffice?
-If you have a raise bridge that raises into a wall: will it act as an atom smasher squishing what was on the bridge against the wall?
-I saw a neat diagram that showed "fortification-floodgate-fortification" to protect it from building destroyers. Does this mean that a fore mentioned aquatic creatures can't actually stand in the fortification; only move through it?

Does it have to be 7/7 on either side or will a simple 1/7 puddle suffice? the liquid needs to be flowing towards the fortification to push anything thourgh
-If you have a raise bridge that raises into a wall: will it act as an atom smasher squishing what was on the bridge against the wall? no, it will act as an atom smasher into the cieling  :D
-I saw a neat diagram that showed "fortification-floodgate-fortification" to protect it from building destroyers. Does this mean that a fore mentioned aquatic creatures can't actually stand in the fortification; only move through it? they can only get pushed through it when it flows. try building a 1-tile raising bridge instead of a floodgate to prevent accidental water building destroying.
it's in bold above.
