No need to make them dumb!
Just make [EAT_SAPIENT_KILL] and [EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER] acceptable!

they're not dumb? anyway, i guess thats a better solution :P

Is there like a patch-note list? Verion list, with what has been fixed and such?
Its alot of reading when you've been away for some months, on the frontpage.

I just want to know what has been added/changed etc.

In the release post of each version you find the list of changes and fixes for that version.

I've got a bunch of messages "Your miners defaced *name*". What does it mean?

Only in DF do you get discussions of how to genocide babies and children because they take up resources, slaughter merpeople for their bones, eat raw kitten meat, and set carefree, happy elves on fire.

Is someone keeping track of all these?

Defacing usually means a masterpiece creation was destroyed, and its creator is going to get bad thoughts from that. I'm suspecting it was a wall/floor, either constructed or engraved, and one of your masons/engravers is gonna pitch a hissy.

Can also get a 'foolish mason' message if they build over a masterwork engraving.

Do fortifications block breath attacks or extract clouds?

Is it normal to have downward slopes stuck in mid-air after a collapse? Is there a way to get rid of them?

Dwarf scaffolding! Build stairs up to it, build floors near it, remove them then remove the stairs.

Quick question from me, my dwarfs appears to be firing my siege weapons into what appears to be my fortress walls. Will this break said wall?

Nope. In fact, it's the best way to train siege operators. Catapults on full-auto into a nearby wall. If you wish, this can also be used as a stone-disposal system.

Can elves be butchered for bones?

If not, why do I have 12 elf bones in my bone stockpile ready to be carved?

Nope!
Also, if you channel the tiles adjacent to the wall, and remove the ramps, the ammo will fall down intact!
Is dwarven physics not awesome?

Enough decay and the skeleton will separate, and the bones will be ready for carving. Amputated limbs become available quicker.

There are a bunch of partial skeletons and a few other random parts from goblins, humans, and a raccoon in front of my fortress that my dwarfs won't take to a refuse stockpile or dump. How do I get rid of them?

Figure out why your dwarves won't dump them. Are they forbidden somehow?

ETA: I'm stupid for forgetting this. You need to |o|rder them to gather |r|efuse when it's |o|utside!

Where the heck are uncaged wild animals going? A 'Release Large Animal' job is generated but doesn't get picked up right away. So every time I've unassigned a wild animal from a cage, my attention has been elsewhere when someone finally gets to it. I check back to see an empty cage with the dwarves assigned to kill the animal standing around like idiots, no fresh corpses or uncaged critters on the lists...where the hell do they go?

I think what happens is they move the animal into another cage.
