doesnt work with war dogs for me, they follow the dwarf step by step through each open door perectly in time

But war dogs are kinda, well, you know, capable of not getting killed.

And really, I'm still having the crossbow problem - 10 separate ranges (1 target each) assigned to a 6 dwarf (4 active) squad, who all have a quiver full of wooden bolts, yet won't use a single one on any of the designated targets.

Have you designated the bolts for training? I haven't futzed with training archers since 2010 came out, but I know that you have to assign bolts to a squad and indicate whether those bolts are used for combat or training. Should be under the ammunition menu of the military screen. In theory, if you've assigned Wooden Bolts to your crossbow squad and they have targets, a full quiver, and are set to train, they'll go off and train.

I have a several metalsmiths with all smithing labours on, a workshop with non-forbidden materials, and metal bars.
I've been waiting a good 20 minutes for someone to make some silver hammers.

What am I doing wrong?

Where is the workshop itself located? It's possible you managed to make the workshop itself unreachable. Also, check for fuel, and make sure your metalsmiths are actually loitering around with [no job], and aren't doing something more "pressing" like moving goods between stockpiles, sleeping, or eating.

Workshop materials forbidden?

Everybody busy elsewhere?

Workshop profile?

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

The worlship is non-forbidden, and my metalsmiths are both able to get to the workshop (it is in an area with other workshops) and have no other jobs.
Do metalsmith's forges need a different source of fuel than a smelter?
I've been using normal coal, if that makes a difference,

And in response to above, is the Weaponsmith labor enabled? Sanity check.

I think I've found the problem, workshop profiles are apparently bugged.
Can building destroyer 2's destroy bridges and from what sides/angles if they can?
A raised drawbridge in indestructable, as are any buildings not on the same level as the destroyer.
I've never seen a creature destroy a bridge, but it may be possible

heard through the grapevine that atom-smashing things
won't actually destroy the item, but put it in limbo state.
(thus not helping FPS.)

is this true? guess that's one question down. one to go!

also, suppose i throw pump some lava into an underground sea and seal off the edges.
if i later carve fortifications into the edges, will water appear?
and if it does, would creatures spawn?
(since they can move through flooded fortifications, according to wiki.
I guess what i'm really asking is:

do creatures get spawned *on* the edge of the map,
or do off, and then move onto the map?)

You might be thinking about ice encasing. Atom smashed stuff completely removes stuff from the world. They don't even show up in the stocks anymore and that's as good as it gets.

Is there any active 3d viewing program like 3d dwarf or obsidian? I know stonesense works but thats not really what I'm looking for.

How do you look at an object, like a door, you put down, and tell what quality level it has?

I want to say |k| or |t|, but I might be wrong.
