Whips beat anything organic in the most goretacular manner possible
Heavy hammers are awesome against everything, but not as good as whips against squishes
Spears are good against organics too
Swords are average but by no means bad
Anything melee and wooden sucks
Adamantine hammers are the worst weapon for anyone who isn't a hammerer because they weigh nothing.
Ranged weapons are good in adventure mode but still a little buggy in fortress (because the crossbowdwarves try to beat everything to death with them instead of shooting from a reasonable distance). I think bows are better than crossbows.

I don't know about any other foreign weapons, or about maces and axes. I just give my dwarves a weapon they're good with and point them in the right direction.

lol thanks

Dominitrix gone bad...

Now i dont know what to equip my dwarves... For self roleplaying purposes.

Swords I exclude for nobles spears dont seem very dwarfy I dont want everyone to use ahmmers.

So i decided to let them use the best weapon for them. thanks

On that note, if I assign my wardorfs to 'any melee' in the squad equipment screen, will they take the one they're best at or just grab one at random?

Or you could say that Indiana Jones came running down a hallway with a valuable artifact under his arm and boulder close behind, and instead of killing him the dwarves made him teach them his awesome skills.

I prefer mine because it makes me thing less about Goblin Fortress.

What does the big red C in the upper left corner mean? I remember reading somewhere that there are three such icons but for the life of me I can't remember what they mean or where I read about them.

I've tried many times and read the wiki several times about gear assemblies and windmills etc. but it just won't work.

How do i transfer the power generated from a windmill to a screw pump about 5 squares away on the same level? the windmill can output 40 power.

Build a kennel and "train war dog." Dog means anything trainable into a war animal.

A FB visited my fort, and the game told me to "beware its hunger for warm blood!". What does that mean exactly?

I had an FB with that trait and I didn't notice it having any effect at all, besides using up the 'slot' that breaths, dusts, spittle, etc occupy.

I don't know about possible effects, but it seems very clear to me that it's the "vampiric" trait.

So right I started a succession game, and the second guy said he just killed some goblins by drowning them in the moat and then burning them with a pyre.

I told him there were no pyres. Also, he doesn't have magma (so no Fire Imps/Fire Men) yet, and it's year two so I don't think a dragon came by and started the fire.

Is there any other way to start a fire?

theres that bonfire mod, but that would be hard to get goblins near.
