Yeah traction bench to move the bone into place and a splint to keep it there so the doc can plaster it.
I think.

Not sure then. I had a miner with a broken leg and that's what the doc did to patch her up.

Vermin remains? You don't. They just sit there.

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

As a temporary solution, you could attempt to set up a semi-unreliable bonfire area and cause a controlled forest fire on a garbage dump of remains

lava would melt your bones, and I've not experimented with pumps much so I don't know how much lava a short pumping period would put out.  The only other way I can think of is fire creatures.  If you can cage trap a fire imp, you're sure to get a blaze if you release in the right place.

Hmm.  Say you create a walled dump outside your fortress with a platform above and dump all your corpses into it.  Would dumping/releasing a fire imp into that pit cause the corpses to catch on fire without any other combustibles?  Inside would be possible, too, but then you have a fire imp.  Inside your fortress.  It's convenient, but also potentially... fun.

On the bad side, grass/trees take quite a while to regrow after a large fire, so it's likely a one-shot deal, collect a couple year's worth of remains, burn the flesh away, and collect piles upon piles of bones to last you until the next fire season.

You should come inside the box.

Then you'll know what I mean.

It would be this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_bench

Generally a device to stretch a person.

In Game terms it is something you create in your mechanics workshop and build in your hospital Zone.

Question: What the heck is the difference between "barracks" and "dormitory"?

Dormatory will be used by civilians who do not have their own bedroom.
Barracks will only be used by military dwarves, and only if their squad has been permitted to use that barracks through the q -> z option.

My problem: I have stone, I see the stone, I'm trying to build something with stone on top of the stone, but every time I try to work with stone; it reacts as if I don't have any. My mason shop had to be built out of wood, and then it would instantly cancel any task I gave it.

I don't have a bookkeeper ready to count exactly what I have, but here's the technicals, in case it's important: I have Lignite and Gypsum in the room I'm trying to build it, Limonite one floor above that, all freshly mined. I have around 50 or so {Bauxite}s, forbidden of course, until I start making things that need such a valuable material.

What's interesting though is that I DID manage to build a workshop with stone prior to this case, but it was made out of Rock Salt (which I ran out of) and before I set my bauxite to forbidden...

... suddenly had an idea... [z] menu, stone, lignite and gyp- son of a...

NEVERMIND, problem solved just before I posted it. I'm still going to post it in case somebody else has this problem, but any stone with a specific specialized use (like coke or plaster powder) is by default disabled for all uses other then the special ones, via the [z] menu's "Stone" tab. I just altered that setting and tried again, and it works now.

Do you have chests/bags/containers set up in your hospital to hold the splints?

yes you do.

Does the traction bench HAVE to be an Iron Table? I can't get my dwarves to use any other kind.

I attempted to build a traction table and I had the following, mechanism, table and robe. But it asked for chain instead.
