I have a question. Why does the ceiling of the Arena keep collapsing at random? I'm in the sky, looking down on a battle and WHAM, 12 million tons of precious metal ore and gems hurtles out of the sky and mashes everything flat.

EDIT: It only happens after a battle when I spawn a new combatant and take direct control for a second time, then I can move exactly one square and, splatsville.

I have no idea, but I'll be damned if that doesn't sound totally awesome.

This is why we can't have nice things... someone will just wind up filling it with corpses.

Can building destroyers destroy floor bars/floor grates?

That sounds very very unbelievable seeing how the arena is not made to do that, please post a screenshot

Do barrels get destroyed in any process involving food? It seems like I have to keep building and building and building those things.

Food gets stored in them. Plants, fat, lye, cooked meals (if small enough), cheese... you get the idea. Booze gets stored in them, and while it depletes, as long as there is still 1 unit of beer in it, a barrel is "full".

So if you have stockpiles of these things, you will eventually need as many barrels as there are tiles in the stockpile. For booze you need 1 barrel each time you turn 1 plant stack into booze, so it adds up fairly quickly.

When the drinks in a barrel are spent, does the barrel disappear? Or does it stay in the stockpile waiting for more of the same? Or does it go to furniture stockpile?

If you make a stockpile that accepts barrels (hardly worth it), then they will go there. If not, they go back into the system. But keep in mind, if you are farming, you will need extra barrels to hold the harvest.

No problem. By the way, do you tailor your food stockpiles? It adds to the barrel expense, but it is worth it to not have things rot.

Things rot in barrels? I've never noticed... no miasma, nothing in refuse pile

Nono. Things rot if you don't get them into a stockpile. Certain things, anyways. But extra stockpiles usually means you have to use more barrels.

Hey there! Been playing the game for a few days now and needless to say I'm amazed!

I'm wondering how the game decide if a room has sunlight or not ... I'm trying to get a statue garden with it (near ground level). Here's what I got so far:
Code: [Select]
Level -1:   Level 0:    Level 1:
01234567890 01234567890 01234567890
########### ...........
########### ...........
##.......## ..######...   ......
##.......## ..#    #...   .    .
##.......## ..#    #...   .    .
##.......## ..#    #...   .    .
##.......## ..#    #...   .    .
##.......## ..#    #...   .    .
##.......## ..######...   ......
########### ...........
########### ...........

#: Wall
.: Floor
 : Open space
All the room at level -1 (even the tiles with a roof) are tagged as outside with light. However I'd like to add a roof and obviously it will turn dark. I considered using grates but won't protect from the rain ... or from arrows. I don't think there's another way to make a floor transparent, right? So what about windows?
Code: [Select]
Level -1:   Level 0:    Level 1:
01234567890 01234567890 01234567890
########### ...........
########### ...........
##.......## ..#o##o#...   ......
##.......## ..#    #...   ......
##.......## ..o    o...   ......
##.......## ..#    #...   ......
##.......## ..o    o...   ......
##.......## ..#    #...   ......
##.......## ..#o##o#...   ......
########### ...........
########### ...........

#: Wall
o: Window
.: Floor
 : Open space
Would the bottom level still have sunlight? Thank you in advance!

If it has ever been exposed to sunlight then ground will always be considered "outside" so you can roof over it no problem. That's how I safely build farms for my outdoor crops.

Indeed, but I didn't ask about the "outside" tag. Outdoor farms were the starting plan but I kind of forgot about soil. So I changed my plans and decided to cure that cave adaptation my dwarves are starting to get with a statue garden, outside tag alone won't do it I need (safe) sunlight! Thank you tho.

Actually I think it will but I could be wrong. As far as I know anything that has the "outside" tag is considered to be receiving sunlight even if it actually isn't. It's worth a try at least.
