I'm not sure if anyone else has already noticed this or not, but I have an odd issues in all of my forts (on the third now) where an assigned bed gets used by other people even when there's a perfectly good bed available in the communal sleeping quarters.

I've checked the obvious things like relationships etc, but there doesn't appear to be any reason why these random dwarfs should be choosing to crash into other people's rooms and use their beds when there are already free ones elsewhere.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you worked out why it's happening?

Yes. Its a bug. But the forums bug out/crash every time I've tried to report it. I'm not even sure why this is letting me post here. Good luck this time, I guess.

While on the question of beds, what are dormitories? Are they beds who are looked over for the purpose of hospital beds, or the reverse?

Dormitories are for creating a proper communal sleeping quarter for civilians, got one set up at the moment actually.
