Dwarf Fortress 2010 Help Thread
« on: April 02, 2010, 01:26:46 am »

Hi all. I hope it's okay for me to make this, but this is gonna be for answering questions to more experienced players.
My questions: Where are caves (Or cave dwelling megabeasts, more precisely) found. I'm on where the Adventure log says it is, but all there is is hills.

Look around the hill more closely, the cave entrances are somewhere on them. They can be very hard to find.

Should one get injured (Hubris!), how does one heal? My character has a broken nose and I can't find a hospital, and it doesn't naturally heal!

I heard jumping off cliffs will cure anything, just make sure the cliff is high enough.

I hear it does not in fact heal you, but it takes away the character's attention from the current pain.

I'm having the same problem, but with a broken ankle.   :-\  Now I move slowly forever.

I can confirm what little the wiki says on the new adventure mode.

Fast travel no longer heals instantly, but over time you will heal.

The only damage I ever got was when I accidentally misjudged how high the cliff I jumped from was. I survived with two smashed opened hands and a broken leg. Shame I was lost underground and had no way of treating my wounds. Once I dropped my shield I was still kicking as and my speed was back to optimum. Are there places where one can get treatment?

As for the bronze colossus I was beating him black and blue without him touching me once. But isn't there a bug or something with the colossus? This is a character who kicked the ass of a hydra and dragon (Admittedly I sacrificed the elf tag-a-long with the dragon as he rushed up first.)

Is anyone else getting not many caves at all? I only got three recorded in my legends.

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!?! I was just walking around the top of a hill looking for a cyclops. Then, out of nowhere, it said I WAS MELTING. Can someone explain to me why I spontaneously combusted?

PKPhyre - that happened to me!

Climate in DF worlds seems pretty extreme. I'm always either in scorching or deathly cold environments. At the time it said my adventurer was melting and bleeding out his facial orifices, the temperature said "it's burning." The sun, beware its power! He may have blocked dragonfire... but youuu caaan't block the suuun.

I think it's funny.

My adventurer got a fever somehow, and then every body part started to rot.   ???

I bled to death after my nervous system rotted, after a long campaign of not being hurt by anything.

I don't know why my brain and spine decided to rot, I also don't know why I bled to death with no wounds.

Maybe someone can explain to me.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

Sounds like you were exposed to some sort of poison. What kind of things were you fighting?

Spears take a strangely agonizing amount of time to directly kill someone, so I decide to pick up one of the maces of my previous victims and beat the unconscious ones to death with it.

I pick up the mace. It's just there.

I drop the spear, I automatically equip the shield as a weapon.

I drop the shield, I don't equip anything.

I try 'wear'. There is nothing to wear.

I 'interact' with the mace. There are no ways I can interact with it.

Uhhh I'm sorry if this may be a dumb question but I can't even find a button to actually equip a weapon manually. Sorry.
