Make Statues like Engravings
« on: March 02, 2008, 02:51:00 pm »

It would be nice to have statues actually be of something, and when you looked at it you got something like

Here is a an exceptionally designed statue by Urist McDwarfFace. It is of a dwarf. The dwarf is shouting.

Hi!

Definitely something positive. Has 'my vote'.

Deathworks

P.S.: But then dwarves who dislike toads should get negative thoughts from the toad statues in the dining hall :) :) :) :)

All of the votes'th'd.

Also, why are all generic dwarves named Urist?  Is it an inside joke or something?

I don't think so, it's just one that most people remember and they've gotten used to using as a basic dwarf name.

Fifteenthed.

I think it would be awesome to know what the iron statue that I have in the middle of my showers looked like while a small waterfall fell on it from the ceiling above.

Funny thing is, I didn't look up this because I read this thread, I looked up this thread because I read that bloat.

Not that it isn't an awesome idea, of course.

I don't know either, but every time I hear the name I think of this story (from the old 2D version).

It's just a really awesome name. Im going to name my first born boy/girl Urist.

Then explain to my wife that it means "Loved one" or some other generic crap.

"Urist" translates into "dagger", actually.  "Bomrek", another popular name, means "whip" or "whipping".

Since I had a special farmer in the 2D version named "Kulet Kilrudastesh", I've grown fond of that name as well.  It means "Abbey Bronzecudgel".

"Urdim", although less common, translates into something halfway-presentable.  "Tower".

EDIT: That, by the way, is all from memory.  Eep.
