I need (free) RPGs (no, not the weapon)
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:32:06 pm »

I need RPGs. Not MMORPGs. RPGs. The single player kind. I'm going to be in a place that won't have very good internet; enough bandwith for forumgoing, but not good enough for YouTube.

I like good RPGs (like the ones you get out of RPG maker), does anyone know where I can find good (free) ones?

WHY DID YOU HAVE ME KICK THEM WTF I DID NOT WANT TO BE SHOT AT.
I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

Depending on the legality you're willing to accept, an emulator and Super Mario RPG is always a good way to spend some time.

Emulators of SNES games be the awesome. Some suggestions:
 Any Breath of Fire game
 Tales of Phantasia

True. Emulators have good rpgs.
But there is a freeware rpg I know, and it's storyline is so good, I completed it twice.

The spirit engine.

^^

But, cough, not that I'd endorse that. In any case, Morrowind is one of the bombest RPGs ever and you can probably get the GOTY version with both expansions for under ten bucks online.

I never like Morrowind.
Compared to other rpg's I've seen it has probably the worst storyline ever.
It's engine, and idea to make a fpp rpg, is on the other hand something I liked.

Are you kidding dude, Morrowind has an awesome storyline, not to mention the incredible depth of the in-game world with conflicting versions of history, weird cultures, trippy religious texts...game is the shit.

The world, well is detailed, so it's good.

But when I don't have a clue about what the main quest is for many first hours of the game, then I tend to get frustrated.
Not to mention that Caius Cossades was simply an old prick.

I have the sudden urge to cry "heathen."

But in any case, to each his own.  As far as free goes, you probably won't find much legally.

Not endorsing piracy, legal stuff, blah blah.

So of all the things you can do in DF, it's the fractal artifacts that make you think dwarves are crazy.

Never mind the magma falls, the atom smashers, the cog-and-axle turing-complete computers, or the colonizing of Hell itself... all those are fine, but man, those recursive artifacts! Where do they get such ideas?

Nethack and adom are both nice roguelikes, which work pretty much the same as dwarf fortress(you will die on your first 20+ tries).
Also they're both free.

Anyone dies on 99.99% of tries.
There are no easy roguelikes, and ADOM requires a fair bit of knowledge.
Also you can be considered a legend if you beat NetHack without spoilers

Isn't The Spirit Engine 2 freeware now?

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.
