You can still have skills (Arena mode allows you to add skills to anything, whether it can learn or not)

I've been playing around with Arena mode since it came out. Trust me, my iron men will not learn skills, whether I give them some or not. I'll go and check again, JUST in case.

EDIT: Checked it. Gave my iron man a high wrestling skill, turned out with no skills.

Hmm, that can't be good, then. Could it be solved if I modded every creature in the raws to have [CAN_LEARN]?

Probably could! Of course, to save yourself the trouble, just put [CAN_LEARN] on the creatures being used. And if you do that...
3 Points - Lead Maul (I couldn't find a category for lead to go under...)
20 - Steel Shield
20 - Steel Breastplate

43 points of equipment...

Professional Hammerman - 55 points.

Leaving two points! =D

Eureka! It works!

Edit: And lead goes under the '3 point' category. Probably should've spotted that earlier, fixed now.

Edit the Second: Who thinks I should just go for a tournament style thing?

What do you mean tournament? Like all sixteen in the arena and then the last man standing wins? I would prefer 1on1 knockout system, with quarter-, semi- and final duels...

Yeah, the 1-v-1 thing is what I'd like to try out first. Since the areas in the arena are a bit small for a Free-For-All

you could always just dump magma on the water channels between the solid areas... :)

Species:Troll
Gender:Male
Ammo:None
Weapon:Steel (16) War hammer
Head Armour:None
Hand Armour:None
Body Armour:None
Foot Armour:None
Leg Armour:None
Shields:Tower-Cap (3) Shield (8)
Skills:
Adequate (12) Dodger
Skilled (23) Shield User
Proficient (31) Hammerman

Total: 99

I assume upgrades work as if we were re-building the character from scratch; e.g., if I won 1 round, I could upgrade the hammer to adamantine.

Yeah, that's how it should work.

Example: Steel War Hammers are worth 16 points
Win one round and you earn an extra 10 points
You can spend 9 points on upgrading that war hammer to adamantine (Which would make it worth 25 points)

I suggest that skills you get in the battle pass over and you get healed between rounds. What fun is it having someone mauled to almost-death fighting a perfectly healthy guy? And where's the awesome in NOT having multi-legendaries in the grand finale?

You can have one or the other. To heal someone would require remaking their character. To pass on skills I would have to keep them in the arena but that would mean being unable to heal them. I could heal (ie. remake) characters at the end of each round, and work out a system for increasing skills. Let's say...every kill a character makes with a certain weapon, they gain an extra 3 points toward the skill associated with the kill method (e.g. If a character kills someone with a sword, they gain 3 points worth of Swordman)

For example, if I have an iron man with Novice Hammerman (5 points) and he makes 3 kills with a hammer, he earns 9 points (3 times 3). Which gives him a total skill level of 14 points, making him an Adequate Hammerman.

Do you think that would work?
