[0.31.01] CTD renders game unplayable [not a bug]
« on: April 01, 2010, 06:57:06 pm »

I installed the new version into my virtual Windows XP machine (runs on my Mac using Parallels 3.0).  The game installs fine and generates the world.  I customize my embarking party, hit "e" and...CTD.  When I choose the "Play Now" option, the game gets to the "Strike the Earth" screen and...CTD.  Does anyone else have this problem?

You're running DF with a Windows emulator. There's your problem.

(i have a mac and am patiently waiting for the mac release.)

Having a Windows emulator was a never a problem with the previous releases, any idea what changed?

*sigh* I'll have to wait then.

Edit:  Being too impatient to wait, I tried it again with a fresh reboot (but didn't change any of the settings) of the Mac and the emulator, used the world I had already genned and was able to embark this time.  I'll experiment some more and see if I can nail down the cause of the CTD.

Ok, so after some testing, it appears that embarking using either option works only as long as the emulator is the only program running on my Mac.  I guess it's a case of resource management and 0.31.01 is the first version that uses too many resources.  :P  Once embarked, I don't appear to have a problem.
