91 Z Magma Pipe / Volcano
« on: April 01, 2010, 06:06:48 pm »

i just genned my first world for DF 2210, and found a nice volcano to embark on. much to my surprise, a massive magma pipe was sticking out of the ground right next to my dwarfs. it stretches 30 Z above the ground floor, and it goes another 60 or so Z straight down. i think its possible that it goes down even more, because i cant see the bottom tiles, its just black underneath. its so very tempting to go poke a hole in it on the ground floor and just flood everything with magma. seems like a good way to welcome in the new version.

what i saw when the game started

Better, find a cavern and flood it with magma. ;D

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

i guess it is. iv decided to make a statue or something over the entrance to the fort, and just use the 30 some levels above ground level as a giant magma cannon / easy flood the world device.

It looks like it's the same shape on every level.

it is, which is sort of odd, which means i see no way to get at it without a dwarf going up in a cloud of smoke. not that its going to stop me

best way Ive found too reveal the deep water/magma in 2010 is to drop a dwarf in it. he will map out every level he passes more then what you have now until he hits the bottom.

Is there a way now to guarantee a magma pipe or similar like the finder used to be able to do or do I just have to search for dark grey rocks and hope for the best?

Suicidal explorers, eh?

You could enclose him in cast 3x3 obsidian cube and cavein it, he should survive all the way down that way.

highly volcanic areas will definitely help, but subterranean magma vents are very common; I've seen as many as three in a 6x6 embark
