Hi Guys,

In preparation for the "Book" arc (How ever far away that is) lets start writing some DF-Themed Poetry. Also, it helps to exercize our creativity, keeping our minds limber. I issue a challenge to everyone - Write a poem a day!

Now, they don't have to be the best thing ever, but some work needs to be put in. If you want, you could write a sonnet (love in DF... ;P) or epigram or haiku. Or freeform or epic or what ever!

I'll start:

Kobold

Cunning, stealthy beast
Silently muttering with
insidious deeds

I reckon that sums up kobolds quite nicely. Please have a go everyone! Who knows - you might be the next Wordsworth or Keats!

Beautiful mermaids
With their valuable bones
It is harvest time

Okay, I didn't really put work into that. My deep shame for this forces me to craft another:

Turn the red lever
The fiery blood of Earth
Eats our enemies

Wait, is "fiery" two or three syllables? Maybe rework it into:

Fiery blood of Earth
Devours our enemies
As we turn the switch

Oh, I already made one, so I might as well as re-post it.

We will fight
because we've got the right!
we'll get rid of those evil,
sons of the devil!
Axes high! bay twelve
dwarves,cut them in half!
pray to the Toady one,
the party has just begone
we've got acolytes two
you can be one too!
lets release the adamantine demon
and the seledine venom
will take our souls
we've waited for this foul
moment!Its time to call the great TOAD!

I like that. Simple yet complete.

My Kingdom for Magma!
Throw of a lever;
Flick of a switch!

Heheh. I remember... The fun I had screwing around. I'd keep on abandoning and reclaiming a fortress until I had MASSIVE stockpiles of valuables... I'd dig a maze and link up lava to it... When the Ork raiders came... they would BURN, BURN AND BURN!!!!!

May as well put mine in here, despite it being in my signature as well... It was originally made as a combination of responding to a thread asking whether magma locations spoil the player and just having had my brain fried by my college literature class. It even uses pentameter! 

The magma poem:

Can magma spoil one?
I have to say no.   
Magma makes for fun,   
for those down below.

Tantruming peons?   
Nobles always whine?   
Seiges last eons?   
Magma works just fine.

When elves come to trade,   
they will soon admire.   
Never getting paid,   
only burning in fire.

Goblins will soon come, 
to knock at the door.   
Add magma to some,   
to make iron ore.

With forges and traps,   
and purges to boot,   
its needed on maps. 
I find your point moot.

A little something I cooked up a while back. It's a Dwarven war song of sorts that they might chant while marching out to meet a siege. Quite fitting methinks. And whaddya know? It's my siggy too

Doom Hammers

The time is here to quash our fear
For flames of war are at our door
They burn the more we hear them roar!
Come the dawn our hammers are drawn,
Our strength bestowed we fight the foe
We fight the foe, and deal the blow!
With war and drum they hear us come
They hear us come, their ears go numb!
And as we go to meet our foe,
We march along and sing this song:

With death our mighty hammers fall
With death they fall, with doom they call
So wage your wars and knock down doors
We'll wield our mauls, strong and tall
And promise thee we shall not flee
For on your crown we hammer down
With blood abound, a crushing sound!
And to the earth your corpses fall
In death you fall, gods help you all!
