Only if they're placed in the same location as a bottomless pit, and that's a bug.

Only if they're placed in the same location as a bottomless pit, and that's a bug.

Even that theory is wrong - what really happened is that, in a particular version, bottomless pits exposed to the surface were spawned with a large blob of lava floating in the air above them.
