Ballista arrow damage
« on: March 31, 2010, 01:59:44 am »

I know the new version is coming out soon, but with all the memory hacking going on maybe someone knows the actual difference between wooden and non-wooden ballista arrows?  The wiki is very vague on that point.

AFAIK in the current version, getting hit by a ballista is instant death regardless of the material or creature.

I believe that dragons can sometimes survive a hit. I do know that different materials apparently increases the number of creatures it can pierce through before stopping.

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

Wooden ballista bolts kill, Metal tipped ballista bolts overkill.

Thats pretty much it.

Last night I shot a wooden ballista arrow down a one tile wide corridor lined with everyone's favorite nobles (Tax Collector, Baroness, Baron Consort, Hammerer). The Tax Collector was in front and was disemboweled and blown to bits. Everyone behind him was just fine. I believe the arrow was no quality.

Ballista arrows do actual damage not just instakill.  I had an orc somehow only get a broken arm after being hit by one.  They just do a while lot of damage with some random modification.  I don't think anybody but toady knows what the actual damage values are but it's pretty much enough to destroy whatever bodypart it hits unless you have something crazy big.

As per normal I imagine wooden bolts do 50% normal damage, iron does 100%, steel 133% and clownite does 500%
