Grr... well I finally have it downloaded (on my computer at home) and linked to my pre-existing Turbine account (this is more work than it should be and involves sending in a support ticket), so I might be able to get on tonight! Maybe!

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

If you get a black screen when you get to the main screen later, switch the options to DX9 and restart the game.

Yeah, hirelings are incredibly cost efficient for soloing at nearly any level. I'd recommend spending a little time and plat to learn how to control them effectively. Especially because at higher levels you might want to run quests where you need heals but don't want to wait for a healer.

I'm going to just throw together a quick level 4 barb to give new people a hand. Probably treat him as a favour farming toon, so throw me a guild invite and I'll grab all the guild renown I can to beef up that level. Going with the name Notsoth for now, but feel free to friend Kosoth (my main) as well.

BTW, there is a special offer off. Enter Ship01 for 900 credits worth of free airship amenities. Valid through next Thursday, so I'd recommend waiting and asking if anything is needed.

Some people invited me to their party, and I got to do an elite run through of the Kobold Assault, and Butcher's Path, got quite a bit of useful items, and a chunk of xp from that :3 The one item I got that I actually know is the +1 Gloves of Ogre Power which is useful since all of my equipment is currently from the quest rewards, also I got alot of collectibles what do I do with them?

Collectibles go in your collectables bag (click the bag, click auto gather, then hit gather to make sure most of it is in there not taking up inv space). In the bag ittells you where and who wants what, and if you hover over the items, a description of how many.

Also, you can get a free small ingredients bag if you trek over to The Twelve. Much more useful that the Tiny bag if you want to do much crafting.

You can find collectible gatherers pretty easily by going into your minimap (press "m") and hovering over any icon that looks like pyramid of dots, which will show you their name. You can only see the ones in your area, but the collectible should show the name of the person who collects the thing and what area they are in, so, as long as you can find the area, you should be fine. Also, entrances to other areas are marked as green diamond icons on your minimap. And you can click on any icon in the minimap and you'll get a white arrow pointing in it's direction that you can follow.

Do they only have them for ingredients or did I just recently waste about 8000 platinum buying a medium collectible bag for my wizard?

http://ddowiki.com/page/Collectable - lists all the collectibles that can be traded in for items. Note that http://ddowiki.com/page/Crafting_Collectables some collectables are used in crafting and so can be sold for a higher value on the AH.

When you first arrive in the Harbour you should be directed to a NPC that will give you a free small collectible + small gem bag + tiny ingredient bag. One of the people inside the main building of the Twelve gives you a small ingredient bag for free. The 100 Favor reward for the Twelve is a Large Ingredients bag.

One of the shops in House J/House P sells medium bags of each type, or check on the AH for Large bags.

Note most bags are exclusive, that is you can only have one of each size in your inventory at once. However you can have as many as you want stored in your bank tabs just make sure to only bring one out at a time.

Note that some collectables are pretty valuable, especially for new/free players.

F2P players can only have one item for sale in the auction house at a time. This pretty much means you always want an item listed that will have a decent return. This is still one of the best sources of money, so it's well worth collecting and listing valuable items. Before I went premium I always made sure to have at least one item ready to list once my previous one sold.

Certain collectables sell for high amounts of platinum, especially given how easily some of them can be farmed. It's usually the ones that can be used in the various crafting systems that are most valuable. Look at the list here. Anything that has a used in line under the item is worth checking on the auction house.

Similarly I'd not turn in anything to the actual collectors unless you know it's not used in crafting or it's value on the AH is negligible.

I think I have a few spare bags lying around in the bank I should probably give away. If not the few thousand that new medium's cost is pretty negligible, so feel free to beg one from me if I'm on Kosoth.

(Is it just me, or are crossbows rather weak compared to direct bows? Ah well, if I EVER find a heavy repeater, I'll see if my proficiency feat wasn't totaly in vain) I made him as smart as possible, then put most of the rest into constitution. He can't cast spells, but I'm trying to increase Use Magic Device as fast as possible so I can use external magic effects. I can't have the steampunk megabuster/light repeater/robot minion guys, so I'm trying for the coolest NON-Artificer fire support.

I'm having difficulty actually USING my ranged weapons though, the scimitar I got with Bodyfeeder seems so much better...

I (as in I the Artificer, not the sorcerer or the cleric I) Have had plenty of success with a Oladrin's Great Crossbow, and to a lesser extent a Heavy Repeating Crossbow. Though having Conjure bolts certainly helps with the usability of one.

I am so jealous of your mad science awesomeness.
I can't use the Oladrin's great crossbow (that's the one from the quest on the newbie island, right?), because rangers don't default to knowing about things other than sissy elf-bows. I took heavy-repeater because I hadn't tried it yet and it sounded like a good middle ground between power and dakka, but now I can't find one. I only have the sissy starter crossbow and some actual direct bows that are semi-decent.

Yep, korthos quest item. Technically I didn't need to go to korthos (since I've had veteran status I unlocked for awhile  and artificers finally have access to it, so I deleted/recreated him with a slightly different look), but hey, experience and having the place done for completion's sake.

The best setup for crossbow users when I was playing regularly was a rogue mechanic. This may have changed over the intervening months.
