As soon as you get to sunny-side you can go to Stormreach. You can then come back to finish quests. To get out of snowy-side you only have to do Redemption and Misery's Peak outside of town, and you can do them on casual if you just want to speed through to Stormreach.

Well, that was quite the adventure.soloed caverns of korromar today, one of those challenge dungeons, level 8 recommended, did it at 6.
Loot up for grab for anyone that wants:
Grudgebearer's plate (+2 full plate of command)
+3 full plate
Wraith's skin(+1 light armor,+5 to hide and move silently.)

Final boss there was a bit of a surprise, hadn't expected to see one so early.

So just to get an idea of how everyone else chooses equipment I am going to tell you mine and then ask you all yours.

I like to choose my equipment not on the action abilities it has but the static. I prefer to have stuff like power I for my rings instead of a ring of waterbreathing or whatever. Over all I believe this comes from me needing all my quickbar for spells and not being able to have such utility actions where I would actually use them. Also because they are static I always have the benefit which I like because that means there is not a limit to how much I can use it seeing as I always am. I particularly like my lesser icegaurd and power II robe I have. So how do you all like your equipment?(also as a side note, for weapons I like to have first a high number of dice then a high bonus then a high dice size because the first to up the minimum damage you deal with it(numdice d dicesize + bonus))

Uh... just so you know (or at least as far as I know) Power XX items don't stack. So ditch your Power I rings if you have that robe on, and see if your sp goes down. If it does, sell them.

I'll grab the Wraith's skin for Metalia if it's still up for grabs.

Pretty similarly I like to go with constant effect items as my standard gear. I do carry an assortment of utility clickies such as ring of waterbreathing and bracers of find secret door which I then swap in when I need to use them. You can drag any equippable or usable item to the toolbar so just drag both your normal item and any alternatives to a toolbar for quicker swapping. First click will equip the item second will activate it.

In terms of actual equipment, Metalax uses Fullplate/Tower Shield/Dwarven Axe with misc items that give first AC bonuses that will stack then save bonuses.

Metalia uses a Rapier/short Sword/light armour with gear that gives skill bonuses for rogues skills and save bonuses.

I also like to carry a first aid kit of potions, both for when soloing and for when your cleric unexpectedly dies early in the mission and you have to survive to the first shrine.

Potion of Cure Light Wounds  60 gold
Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds  360 gold
Potion of Cure Serious Wounds  900 gold
Potion of Lesser Restoration 360 gold
Potion of Poison Neutralization  900 gold
Potion of Fear Removal  60 gold
Potion of Paralysis Removal 360 gold
Potion of Blindness Removal  900 gold
Potion of Curse Removal  900 gold
Potion of Disease Removal  900 gold

Some of them are expensive, so I only have a few on hand at the moment.

Oh and is anyone else still using some of the starter equipment like the set you get from sacrifices/misery's peak as they hit levels 6-7? I've still yet to find or see for a reasonable price any items that are better to fill those slots.

I generally do the same. I've yet to find any situation where it would be tremendousliy useful to be able to breath water for a minute and a half or make kobolds slip on grease. Most activations just aren't very useful.

how everyone else chooses equipment

So far there hasn't really been a lot of choice. "Most damage,""best armor," "relevant attributes" is about as complicated as it gets most of the time. You'll notice that about a third of everyone you see in Stormreach is wearing the same straw hat.

Every now and then I've had to make a choice like 10 more spellpoints or +1 AC, but usually it's a no-brainer.

Exactly. Itemization just isn't that great at our level. Hopefully it will improve.

I've experimented...but other than my haggling hat for the extra 2% sales prices I get is about the only swapout I've found to be useful. For a while I was carrying a bunch of various stat and skill boost items to allow me to spot doors, etc. as needed. But the bonuses were never enough to actually succeeed at anything. So I stopped bothering.

Haha... haggling hat. How awesome would that be IRL? Hmm, what would that LOOK like?

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.
