count me in.im downloading the game now,Name will likely be my forum name or some variation of.

Edit: made the character, Sigvardr (yet another) dwarf barbarian.haven't ever played this mmo but have played others,I'm sure I'll catch on soon enough.

bardbarian sounds like it could be fun but would probally fail. I'm going to go a bard, though i'll make it later. For timezone I'm in Australia which I think is +11.

Heh, back when I played this game I actually had a very effective dwarf "bardbarian." IIRC I made him bard with a level or two of fighter for some extra oomph (str enhancement IIRC) and  and went with all the + damage songs. I forget the name of the specialty, warchant or something like that. He was a little bit squishy due to low AC (he was all out offense, strength based and had rage spell) but he kicked ass. Fighters loved him, he gave some crazy attack and damage bonuses. Lots of nice buffs too - haste, heroism, rage, displacement (made up for the low AC), enough healing to be a good secondary healer (took pressure off the cleric), and some good crowd control.

He was good solo with all the nice self buffs, and amazing with a couple fighters to benefit from his song and buffs.

I'm not sure if I'd want to get back into the game, though - I got kind of sick of it back when I used to play, repeating the same instances over and over and over gets boring no matter how good of a guild you have.

Just created Heyreddin McDwarf, a Dwarven Bowbarian.

Hopefully rage works well from a distance.

...yeah, I'm having a difficult time getting into it myself. It kind of seems like world of warcraft with less freedom of movement, sloppier controls and hours of required reading to keep you from making horrible, uncorrectable character choices that will forever cripple you unless you start over.

If you don't like the instanced dungeons and quests, your not likely to enjoy it later on either.
It's supposed to be presented in similar vein to a story being told.


The later quests get a bit difficult, and require quite a bit of planning though.

Metalax McDwarf(Dwarf fighter) has migrated to the world. Still running around the starter area atm. Need to find somewhere to get a proper dwarven axe.

I'm pretty sure I saw one of the other dwarves saying something just as I was logging out, so whoever that was sorry for not responding.

Sleep time now but I'll be on again sometime tomorrow.

I'm quite impressed with the quests so far. Sure, they aren't all that complex, but I just had to solve a puzzle! A real puzzle, in an MMO! As far as I'm concerned that alone is a step in the right direction... even if it was just a simple game of pipe-dream.

Aye, I've had a very exciting first day. It turns out that rageshooting actually does more damage than not rageshooting. I think I found a new favorite class.

There are some cool puzzles in the game, but unless you have a group who is all doing it for the first time (and don't mind failing if you get it wrong, some of them are timed or only give you so many tries) you usually don't end up actually doing them. I managed to get in a few groups like that and had fun, but mostly it was just repeaters who were only after the loot and didn't bother with the journey.

Maybe I was with a bad guild, but most of the big raids we went on were rather boring. Move here, kill baddie X. Move there, kill baddie Y. Repeat a bit. Wait there until Soandso finishes with puzzle Z. Move and kill something else, or collect some treasure. Rinse and repeat 500x until you get lucky and find the special item you want (I never bothered, which meant my char was poorly equipped, but I got by). Unless you were actively looking around (which was discouraged in most places, since they wanted you to stand still and not draw mobs) you never even got to know the place other than the shortest most efficient route that they were taking you along, and any puzzles were done by people who had done them 1000x before or had read spoilers for them since the group didn't want to miss their treasure because some new guy got the puzzle wrong.

Thats the exact opposite of how we play apparently. We're much more of a "never stop running or swinging your axe" guild. Sure we may all die repeatedly running one by one into danger with only 5 hp each... but we win eventually!

Yes.  The Troglodyte Champion and his tunnel of watery dwarfy death claimed each of us at least twice.  But that's what being a Dwarf Fortress dwarf is all about!

Losing is quite fun! and so is getting jiggy with it!

Also one of those elves that we we're beating on pmed me saying he wanted to make a dwarf to join us.  I told him about Dwarf Fortress and he seemed interested.   8)  WE SHALL ENSLAVE ALL THE ELVES.

Just be careful that you don't end up with an elven ruler, it might result in an overload...

I'm surprised at how well they modeled blocking with a shield. Instead of just a constant AC bonus, you also get damage reduction while blocking, and you can't move very quickly.

I just wish you could use a shield and crossbow simultaneously, so that I could be my own shotgun phalanx.
