Miscellaneous raws fixes
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:52:44 pm »

  • Olms are tagged amphibious whereas Wikipedia clearly states that they are aquatic, never leaving the water.

  • Cave spiders, gremlins, olms, phantom spiders and purring maggots do not have pet values.

  • Giant olms, giant toads, giant desert scorpions and giant cave spiders cannot breed.

Harpies, nightwings, ogres, sasquatches, satyrs, foul blendecs, stranglers, trolls, unicorns and werewolves cannot breed either but their nature is a bit of a mystery, casting doubt as to whether they should be able to in the first place. Animalmen are also incapable of breeding, with the exceptions of cave swallow-, leech-, slug- and snakemen.

  • Pack animals never die of old age.

  • Whales sexually mature in just one year, instead of the 7-10 suggested by Wikipedia.

  • Sea monsters are relatively short-lived and do not breed, resulting in a quick extinction.

Feel free to add anything else you can think of.

Except for the first sentence that says they're amphibians.

Classed as such, yes.

In contrast to most amphibians, the olm is entirely aquatic, and it eats, sleeps, and breeds underwater.

I'm pretty sure they can survive outside of water for short periods of time, though.

Hate to break it to you, but the word of Toady is law.  If the Wikipedia says one thing but the game acts differently, then the game is correct - not the Wiki - and the Wiki page is what needs to be changed.

I'm glad all the DF players are not living in one district. It'd be the most dangerous district for the whole world.
Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.

The Gospel according to St. Toady is not infallible, however; before we can attempt to alter that heathen wiki, we have to first sacrifice a noble and troll the Suggestions board, so that He may give us the right answer.

he means THE Wikipedia, not the DF Wiki.

I disagree on olms, simply because those suckers wouldn't be as dangerous if they were purely aquatic.

can't we just mod the rwars to allow for breeding and extending the life span of these suckers?

It took me a minute, too, but I believe he was talking about Wikipedia and saying that tongue-in-cheek. Or, for the love of God and all things holy, I hope so.

But as alluded in my post, some of these things mentioned should be verified in the DF2010 files, and then check with Toady to see if this is what he wanted.

Hmm, I remember someone saying this was just to make sure you wouldn't get caravan's pack animals dropping dead from old age...

Hmm, that's probably true. Horses have the same problem but cows don't.

As for the olms, I was mostly interested in the small ones crawling to land constantly. Giant ones can be handled differently if desired.
