Firefly remains leads to death
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:06:40 am »

So I have my little group of 7 dwarves hanging out on a rather hostile surface, but they're in a benign area of a large map, doing alright. Suddenly a dwarf goes running off to store an item. What is it? A random firefly some other creature killed. So naturally, he dies and everyone else whom I can't stop going after it die as well. I already had forbid everything on and ignore refuse. I had ignore animals and ignore bodies on as well. But one firefly... And yes, I can forbid it personally and they'll let it go, but every single time? Is there a way around this?

I have a map like this. I set my refuse stockpile to support zero creatures, then just added goblin/elf/human and other local wildlife to the accepted creature list. It was rather frustrating getting dwarves running all the way across the map to grab knuckle worm remains located in the center of a clump of giant wolf spider webbing directly underneath a skeletal eagle, I agree.

Also, add WEBIMMUNE to vermin. It will stop the outside (and inside) of your fort from being filled with toads that died from touching a spider web, and thus dwarves won't be compelled to grab them.

But Ignore Refuse From Outside works perfectly for me, and I have every reason to huddle underground in fear.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

Thanks Retro, I never thought of that. It works perfectly. Not that I don't love being underground most all of the time, but it was my first year playing minimalist and I was waiting for my first pick in Autumn.
