Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This link is broken, do not click on it.

I'm not sure if I should actually be on Cthulhu's Cthulhu list, since I missed the first game, I'm probably going to miss the next one unless it's on Friday, and for all same reasons the next weekend looks doubtful.  Weird.

At any rate, I'll be glad to sing the praises of GURPS to anyone willing to listen.

Friday works for me, for Cthulhu.

I think it'll be a one-shot scenario though.  I'm not sure GMing Call of Cthulhu is my cuppatea.

I'll join in. Not so much as a regular player but when I have the time. That ok?

M16 vs. G11

I don't study it all that much, but I was under the impression that much of the design of several modern prototypes such as the XM-8 and XM-29 was if not derived from, then at least influenced by the G11. The caseless ammo was a fuckup, yes. And it might have been too complicated, but a big part of the complication comes from the caseless ammo.
Some of these things could have potentially been fixed, albeit with major redesigns, if the gun hadn't been scrapped.

I'm not arguing that it didn't have plenty of problems, I'm just playing devil's advocate in saying that from a 1984 perspective, I can see how someone might have considered a gun(which probably didn't have much public information available at the time, considering it was designed during the cold war) like that could have been seen as "the future."

Sorry, after rereading my post I was an ass. I was just mad from a different thread.

But no, the XM8 is a standard direct impingement gas operated rotating bolt assault rifle. It has more in common with the M16 than the G11. However, the XM8 has also been scrapped. H&K really is stupidly overrated when it comes to their longarms. Excellent pistols though.

The XM29s carbine component was nothing more than an HK G36 in a smaller package, as it was also a direct impingement gas operated rotating bolt assault rifle. This project was also scrapped because of several complications.

I've written a thesis on what I believe will happen in the firearms world in the future, the first part of it has already come true.

I proposed the modularization and customization would be prevalent, and just look. The Bushmaster ACR and the FN SCAR are the most popular rifles in the world with armchair special forces and fiction novel writers everywhere.

Next I proposed caliber experimentation. This is becoming true, with the advent of 6.5 and 6.8 ammunition, and the new Hornandy 30-30 Revolution lever action round.

The rest hasn't come true yet, but I suspect most of it will.

Look at me, I've gone on a ramble  ;D

Moral of the story is don't watch future weapons, it's propaganda.

Testify.  Gimme that old time AK-47 religion any day.

Y'know what the great thing about GURPS is?  With the freely distributable GURPS Lite rules and a little GM assistance, you have everything you need to play a STALKER themed campaign.  Not that I've played STALKER itself mind you, but I think I could take a pretty good whack at it.  Lotta shootan zombies and radiation poisonan right?

I remember previewing a role-playing game where you played as the zombies.  The zombies would fall apart if they did not eat brains regularily, and apparently could actually think intelligently, some could speak humanese, and could even attempt to pass as human (with varying results).

While there are zombies, they're not traditional moaning, shuffling melee zombies. These are more like brainwashed cultists. They use guns... generally pretty well too.

Also, I haven't seen more than a few clips here or there of future weapons. Except for the XM-8, which I've heard good things about from a friend who claims to have had hands on time with, I remain non-committal to any of the new fangled weapons. Even the XM-8 I'm only cautiously attracted to. I guess I'll never know for sure how it would have turned out. I actually don't like the SCAR series of weapons at all. Good idea, semi-bad execution, in my honest opinion. Still, it shoots bullets, so it at least got that part right.

Fantastic, that's even easy to do.

If you guys are talking about that wankfest FutureWeapons with the host who can't talk above a whisper, there is one clip that I love watching.

OH MY GAWD

They put an accubore laser round into the chamber of thathandgun, and used it with a normal laser unit to look sci-fi. And that effing face. >:C

I'd like to have a go, but don't really know how to play tabletop games.  Would it be ok if I watched a couple?

-Yes-. We're doing Maid RPG Friday, and our first session of D&D with Reasonableman Saturday. Get MapTool and GameTable, and then you're set to watch both games easy.

Crap, almost forgot. Maid RPG might be problem today. Depending on whether or not I move to a new appartment. I let Janet know about it, and it looks like it won't happen, but just in case I don't show up, I'd like you guys to know what happened.
