"Discovering" magma after using reveal tweak
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:09:04 pm »

So I got impatient in finding my magma pipe and used a reveal tweak (funny- my miner was about 20 squares from hitting it). Unfortunately that means the game was never triggered for certain magma-finding-event dependent changes like allowing magma furnaces and triggering the Dungeon Master to arrive (I don't have rivers on the map). I know there's a tweak to allow the furnaces, but I haven't figured out how to trigger the Dungeon Master to show up- I've met all the other requirements (in fact I have a countess, consort, tax collector, etc.) but noticed on the wiki it's the discover magma/river event that's required in addition to the rest.

So how can I trigger the find magma event?

Personally, whenever I want to use reveal to see where things are, I save before I use it then just ctrl-alt-del and reload. Never have to worry about the bugs.

Using Visual Fortress also works. At least that way you can dig to hidden features yourself without having to save/ctrlaltdel/etc.

Unfortunately it's way late in the game to load before the discovery. Those are good tips for next time around, though.

Any mods or tweaks that trigger the magma find?

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Utilities#Enable_Magma_Buildings
Be warned it's for 40d only, and you have to use it each time you start up DF if you want to make magma buildings.

 If you use
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and you find an underground water source, you will probably say " Yay towercap!" But no, you have to find underground river's yourself.

I've been using Enable Magma Buildings through Tweak and I'm pretty sure I've run prior to a migration coming in but the Dungeon Master hasn't come. I already have magma furnaces, that's not the issue.

Reveal (also in Tweak) is how this problem came about in the first place. No underground water source/river on the map.

Yeah I think you are hosed in regards to the DM tbh.  If you don't have a save prior to revealing then you will just have to live without the DM I think.

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.

Does this mean I can't train my Titan? :'( Unless there's another tweak that enables megabeast training without the DM...

At least I can still throw him in a pit with captured gobbos- he likes to tear 'em up.

Pretty sure that without modding you cannot train a titan even with a DM.   You can try adding the [trAINABLE] tag to the titan entry in the raws, however you may need to change some other things as I am not sure if there are any other tags in there that are mutually exclusive with trainable.

Have you tried using dtil to "unreveal" the magma? Note that if you've already dug into it, you'll likely have to seal it off with constructed walls/floors and then dig a new entrance, but it just might work.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
