Let's get pumped for DF 2010!
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:00:52 pm »

Okay everyone, we're on the home stretch.

It's been a loooooooooong wait, but it's almost here.

However, ask yourself once, "what exactly is it?"

Do you remember all the fun stuff going into this update? Probably not. So, let's all go back and read the dev log, starting with the advent of 40d.

40d came out in September of '08, so there is a lot of material to read. Feel free to post any favorites here.

  • Champions as heavily trained soldiers are no more. Rather, a single Champion  is an appointed position that your duke/count/baron appoints.

Let's shake hands if you want but soon both hands are gone, A-ha-ha!
Cut me down like a tree like the lumber or weeds, well discard who you please like the leaves off a tree. Drag me out of the sea and then teach me to breath. Give me forced health till I wish death on myself. Ah! Ha! Ha!
March on! March on! March on! March on! MARCH ON!

Burrows! Burrows are areas in your fort where dwarves live and work in. You can assign these areas like zones and assign dwarves to them. Dwarves will only use workshops, rooms, etc. in burrows they are assigned to.

Yay!

Mine is:

That he's going to be releasing the Mac and Windows version at the same time!

Oh. wait...

No. I'm not bitter AT ALL.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Just looking at that page caused a dorfgasm. I need to change my pants, brb.

Now that I have returned, I think anything based on the new combat systems are what I am looking most forward to.

I'm currently making a nice room for my legendary clerk. I always treat my legendaries with the greatest respect, giving them the best rooms and so on. Although the walls are mostly engraved with pictures of my miner starving to death after he fell down a well, so it's not too cheerful.

For me, its either the new body construction (just love the complexity, and a hugely refreshing breath of fresh air from the whole "HP" systems used in other games), or the underground stuff. I think exploring dangerous and dark caves filled with nasty monstrous civilisations - well, communities, anyway - will be immensely entertaining.

Definitely all of the underground stuff. Specifically:

It's possible for an adventurer to enter a massive underground cavern on one side of the world and journey all the way to the other.

Although, I feel this is more relevant to fortress mode than adventurer for me.

This guy gets it, the problem with the child torture dungeon is that they weren't set on fire first.

Custom workshops are going to drastically change how we do business. Modding in new races with bizarre items and equipment is going to be *fun*, instead of a smelter-spamming chore.
