crazy world help
« on: March 28, 2010, 07:22:17 am »

so i copy/pasted all the raw files for creatures into there areas, thinking it would make a crazy world with fluffy wambler civs and muskox HFS, but when i went to play adventure mode all that came up was humans and dwarves. can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Where exactly are 'there areas'? Perhaps if you gave more detail we'd be able to help.

Wouldn't that be just replacing the existing info with the existing info?

so i have to go through a long journey of copy/pasting one area, then the next, then the next just to have a crazy world?

Just like a dwarf....
But your just copying the files over themselfs. You would have to do a lot of editing and modding just to get a new civ.

Duplicating would do nothing. You would have to edit the raws to make the world the way you want it. Read this http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Modding If that make your head want to explode then you might want to wait on modding the game till you have a better understanding of it.

I think that what he wants to do is to break raws a bit to have crazy world (too lazy to paste examples)

What you need to do is just duplicate some of the raw tokens (e.g have 2 of [CREATURE:DWARF]) or something like that. But it's random and might take a while to notice that trees leave elf wood which evaporates killing everyone around :D

edit: a bit ninja'ed

Go to your data->objects folder.  Delete all the files there.
Go to your raw->objects folder.  Open 'creature_domestic' with a text editor. Take one of the entries (for example, [CREATURE:DOG]), and select all of the indented data following it (everything before the beginning of the next entry, [CREATURE:CAT]).  Copy.  Then click on a blank line and then Paste.  You should now have two complete copies of the [CREATURE:DOG] record in the file.
Save and close the file.
Open Dwarf fortress and create a new world.  Enjoy your purring maggot civilization.  Make masterwork wagon meat roasts.  Play for the short time you have before the game crashes, or all your cave fish silk clothes spontaneously burst into flames, or the hippo civilization sieges you, or whatever.

Honestly I'm not sure there's much point.  I just tried it, and found such items as wagon meat, _leather, and cave fish silk on the embark item list.  I also found that the game crashed when I tried to look at the world legends.  I expect if I'd played I'd have found the game unplayable due to crashing or spontaneously combusting items.  I don't know if more duplication equals more randomness, but if it does I expect you won't be able to play at all but will simply crash.

Wagon meat, high in fiber, low in fat.
