Garry's Mod
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:22:15 am »

Well, I've finished Half Life 2 and Portal, and got Garry's Mod so I can get even more fun out of them.

Original Post:
Quote
Here's quick thread, I've got around 15 dollars I can spend on either Gmod or the Half Life pack on steam.

I just finished HL2 and its two episodes and I'm missing various story elements about the stuff that happened in black mesa and other things I think  are explained in the first game. I can get half life and its two expansions for $15.
or
I can get Gmod for $10.

so, those of you who have played the two games, which will provide more entertainment?

PS. I am aware that black mesa will soon be released, but I want to play through the original half life first.

Garry's mod is more of a playset than an actual game, but you can do some cool stuf with it.   Half Life is a classic, though.

Gmod, because of all the Dwarvenly fun that can be had!

1. you can spawn a ton of antlions, and have them battle hordes of Headcrab Zombies!
2. You can build all sorts of shit
3. Zombie. Survival.
the list goes on and on.

The thing is though, Half Life has not aged terribly well. Jumping puzzles everywhere, too much death water, etc, etc...

Granted it was fun back in the day, but we are too spoiled by modern standards to enjoy it in the same way.

Really? I play it all the time. Love it, too. I guess, like pretty much everything, YMMV.

I'd say... Gmod though. It can't be hard to make another $15 and right now, Gmod is pretty good for creative stuff and well worth the 10 bucks.

black mesa will soon be released
:D :D

It's like it's gone silent. I WANT MY BLACK MESA! WHERE ARE YOU BLACK MESA? WHERE ARE YOU?

The answer is simple. Buy both!

I'd wait until G-mod next comes up on sale, as it seems to do so reasonably frequently. For the moment go with the HL1 pack and after you've finished playing those there are quite a number of good single-player mods that were made over the years for it that will keep you going.

Hmm, I may just go with half life then. I heard the two expansions weren't made by valve, are they worth anything?

Jumping puzzles. In a FPS. And damagewater you cannot avoid. I liked playing this game, but multiple playthroughs reveals that this game is a dick.

I never played the expansions, but I hear people didn't like Blue Shift.

Opposing Force is awesome and I will berate you for the rest of your life if you do not buy it as well.

I haven't played Blue Shift, but according to what I've heard from others, it sucks big time.

O Rly? Well I'll have to buy them together anyway, all three. Unless I get Gmod...

Damn it this dilemma is killing me! I've get awesome story and game play vs incredible replayability. I might just end up buying both and shoot myself for buying so many things at once.
