Equipping my Companions?
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:02:13 pm »

Do companions pick up items they need, like bolts or arrows? Any bowmen/crossbowmen I find become useless the moment they run out of ammo. Plus any time someone gets knocked unconscious, they drop their weapon and shield and never pick them up.

Is it possible to make my companions pick stuff up?

DF's initial learning curve is more like a learning cliff, essentially the game shoves you off and expects you learn how to fly before you hit the ground.

one way I think works is try retiring in some town(and embark on top of it) and use some util to S(t)eal the wandering companion then place them in the military and select their weapon. once they grab the weapon leave they should still be following you once your back from your vacation and now with the new/old weapon. if that does not work then well train them as wrestlers.

I thought this topic would be about strapping companions to your torso and limbs to act as meat shields.

Leaving disappointed.

Turn traps on in the init, and "guide" them over a large, serrated disc trap?
Gets you a free weapon. Or shield. I'm not exactly sure which. :-\

... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.
