Random dead animals on the unit list?
« on: March 27, 2010, 04:35:53 pm »

Hello on my fortress i was checking my unit list to look for some goblin thief that i misplaced, and i came across at the bottom of the list a dead cave crocodile, along with 4 dead fire imps, a dead lizardman, and somewhere it says there is a magma man in the wild, i am next to a volcano, but ive searched the entire thing there is no magma man within the volcano and too my knowledge we have only killed one imp, and i dont have an underground river (that i know of) so idk where the croc came from,

*edit*Nvm found the magma man in the volcano, but i would still like to know if it shows hidden dead animals

It's likely you do have an underground river and simply haven't uncovered it yet. UG rivers end in a small chasm (unless they leave the map first) and your crocodile and lizardman likely got pushed into this chasm by the water.

As for the dead imps, they either got killed by some random animals, set fire to the grass and burned to death, or your dwarves killed them without you noticing.

Caravan guards are another source of surprise kills

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

Yep. Right after embark check your list; it's a pretty good indicator if you have underground water.

Wait, what?

Fire imps can live in magma, yet burn to death if set alight by fire?

I <3 dwarven physics.

or nearby of the border, somehow, I have no Idea, it might have just been one of those bugs that randomly happen and you cant recreate, but an imp visited my desert fort entering through the borders. the game must have thought " Ohh, its the desert, Meanmelter wont care, nothing will burn to death, hopefully. I killed it luckily.
