Muddy pool destruction
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:56:39 pm »

I need to place constructions on top of a space occupied by muddy pools. I tried to use tweak to turn the space below the pool into soil walls, and the space above into soil floors, but it still marks it as "no access". What modifications need to follow to clear off the muddy pools? Must I build floors over the whole thing and block off all my walls?

Since you used tweak you can bet that's your error. Yes, you should use constructed floors. Alternatively, dump magma on it.

Seriously, dump magma on it.

You'll create a cast obsidian floor for constructing purposes, and you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from solving your problems using magma. Very, very dwarfy.

If I create magma in the tile over the pool, it will fall down and create obsidian in the pool below? (It does make sense, but magma is, like dwarves themselves, quite unpredictable.)
Sweet, I'm so doing that. But since I already ruined this pool I'll have to put up with the construction.

See the wiki or search the forums for magma casting. It will create a wall of obsidian where the water used to be, and a rough obsidian floor the level above. Note that this doesn't change the inside/outside status of the tile, a noted bug.

I just discovered something; building just one constructed floor on top of the pool (once you've replaced its empty top with a soil flooring) makes the entire thing accessible. So this should work pretty well.

Or more specifically, it'll change the inside/outside status but since the 'dwarves stay inside' order really means 'dwarves stay subterranean' it isn't that helpful. The only thing inside/outside seems to have any major impact on is furniture placement...

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
