Is there a way to make a reaction spawn animals or vermin?

Once created, the size of a creature can only be changed when turning a child to an adult.  A vermin is a size 1 creature.  Changing that creature into anything else, even by memory hacking programs like Dwarf Companion, will still only create a size 1 creature, which still behaves like a vermin.
