Demon Suicide
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:43:33 pm »

so, I have(had) a demon near my fort who runs a goblin fortress, making him a friendly demon
he's a flying spit-fire demon, so by my 3rd kobold assault, he's down on the battlefield torching stuff
I look away for 2 or three minutes to withdraw all my dorfs so they aren't caught in cross fire, assuming my marksdorfs and cage traps will disband the kobolds and when I look back, giant forest fire, kobolds are torched and demon is dead.  I can only assume that the demon erupted in an amazing inferno and exploded with the force and heat of a billion suns, as a small kobold party seems like nothing compared to the demon.  This is disappointing because I was building a massive mine field of cage traps (which all burn away because of the fire) and a giant canopy to crash down and knock him into a trap.  :(
is this a bug?`

Creatures do have a tendancy to set things on fire, and then burn to death in it.  That could have been what happened.  Its also entirely possible that some kobalt just walked up and stabbed it, getting a lucky instakill critical.

but a demon?
I thought demons were supposed to be end-boss~
but there is a kobold corpse next to it
I shutter to think what would have happened had the demon-slayer kobold not died in the fire

Well, I wouldn't think of this as a "bug", per se; more like an "awesome bending of the programming". ;)
Demons exploding in demonic fire for the win! ;D

Yeah, demons are really strong, but that's just how the combat system works. One very lucky hit and you can decapitate someone or impale their head.

So, I tediously awaited the arrival of the dwarven caravan (I'm set up on a island, see)... And, they came. My fingers tingled, my nose twitched and my toes tickled... they came around the corner, over my bridge... Into my courtyard... Onto my trade depot...

Then everything near it exploded in a cloud of blood.

Look the demon up in legends assuming you know his name

remember, even a groundhog can get lucky and rip your throat out if you stand there long enough.

This. It'll list cause of death.

this is interesting
It doesn't list the region in "start game".  It's odd because the region is in the Data Folder and I can play the current file set in that region perfectly...
I had recently packed it using WinRAR to post it here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=1942 and it was named region 2, as well, but when I deleted that it still wouldn't run D:  also, that save was from a bit before the demon actually died
got the demon's name, though!  Asno Sulozeden Lungukbosa
wrote it down, lol

pretty sure  having an active fort in a world prevents you from reading it in legends or playing it in adventurer mode.

Make a copy, and abandon.
