Unfortunately, the only bodily function we currently have is vomitting (because, as we all know, urinating is SO much more disgusting), so all you can do in that line of thought is create a vomitorium where your dwarves vomit on the skulls of your enemies...

Which is still fairly disrespectful of the dead.

On that note, you could make a totally walled in fortress except for a large walled platform full of holes that extends above the entrance, and put your barracks there. Your fighters are close to the action, your marksdwarves can easily kill goblins when they walk under the holes, and best of all, goblins must enter your fortress through a constant rain of vomit.

There's got to be something good, but I'm not coming up with it. I was thinking of strewing them all over the floors of my latest mega-project, but that seemed too mundane. The game doesn't supply anything good - the wiki says they can only be processed into totems, and it's no easier to come up with something to do with a hundred totems than with a hundred skulls.

Ideas?

Hopefully in some future version of DF we can setup something like this...

Place all of them on a big bridge, facing the approach to your fortress. When the goblins start their charge of death, raise the bridge, pelting the goblins with the skulls of their fallen comrades.

Make a long path to your fortress with bridges connected to a lever set to be pulled repeatedly. The bridges have channels that lead 1 z-level below into a large space. This space has an exit into a great labyrinth. To escape to the outside, goblins have to fearfully make their way through the labyrinth, filled with scattered goblin skulls and corpses, pressure plates that constantly shift the exits so they can't just all charge out, ludicrous amounts of traps, random dangerous animals, vast swarms of cats, cages filled with 50 war dogs, pressure plates that collapse sections of the labyrinth, random magma floods, hidden bunkers with champion marksdwarves, etc.

Custom stockpile which only take goblin skulls, lining the entrance to your fort. Or put them in your tombs.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Legendary bonecrafter + craftshop that only makes totems, and decorates with bones on repeat.  Make lots of masterwork goblin skull totems menacing with spikes of goblin bones, make a pile only for them in the shape of the Jolly Roger.
Enjoy your Pirate Fortress.

Hmm. Can skulls be stored in bins?

Also, does anyone know how the goblin ruler decides when to show up? I've had two of the minor goblins from my goblin civ's Civilization page show up in siege (I captured one and killed the other) but now I've had several sieges with no one interesting. Would it help any if I kill the one I've captured?

Mod it so they're a type of stone and have your catapults bombard invaders with them.

It wouldnt help much, but can dwarves use skulls during moods? I mean, like create a skull throne, or enormous skull corskscrew...

If you put them in a stockpile that stockpiles skulls, yes.

And then it's pretty much a normal fortress from then on.
I find the idea of a normal fortress amusing.

Hm. This is the best I can think of, coming back to it a day later:

1. Cover the entire exterior of the map in 1x1 bridges.
2. Hook up all these bridges to the same lever.
3. Using a higher-level walkway and obscene amounts of micromanagement, dump multiple skulls onto each bridge one at a time.

When an enemy squad is approaching the fortress, put the lever - and watch your enemies shit their pants in utter terror as thousands of skulls formerly belonging to their friends and family go flying into the air around them.

Wouldn't need the entire map - just dig a few small pits (accessible from underground), put retracting bridges inside them (linked to one or more levers), and additional retracting bridges on top of them (linked to the same levers). Pull the lever(s) once to open the chambers, dump a bunch of skulls and/or totems inside, then pull the lever(s) again to seal them (the skulls will try to fly out, but they'll be stopped by the "lid"). When goblins come by, pull the lever and the skulls should spew forth from the holes.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

1) edit the raws so skulls are a valid material for furniture
2) make chairs, lots of them
3) yell SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! alot

It's too bad that other civs don't ask for things like Orc Bones and Kobold Skulls.  A bounty system would be cool  ;D

No, its realistic.

I dont think realism is a major concern in a game about alcoholic midgets fighting dragons and soapmen.
