DF Addict Support Thread
« on: March 25, 2010, 06:39:49 pm »

So, considering its been a year and a half, and the release always seems to be 'just a day or two' away, and I've gotten to the point where I've checked the Dev Log about 20 times in the past hour...I figure we should have a support thread. The problem, clearly, is not that the release has been so long, but we are way too addicted to this game.

So, lets have your thoughts on this, and strategies for coping. Or perhaps we can just laugh at the whole premise of this thread. Because seriously, its been a year and a half, if anyone needs a support group, its us.

I'm playing 40d18 (Mayday graphics) in the most ridiculously over-cheating way possible just to see if there is a limit to how much wealth you can have in one fortress:
Make everything possible out of adamantine, and ONLY adamantine (with one smelter spewing the adamantine.)

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Only 20?

Come on, everyone knows it takes exactly 21600 refreshes in 1 hour to get an update. I keep falling short, but sooner or later...

I'm building a orthoclase tower.

I have magma pumps.

I don't know where I'm going with it.

I'm also adding orthoclase to Firefox's dictionary.

Toady is actually a cocky preteen who is seeing how long he can string us along believing there will be a release. Threetoe is his mom.

I'm currently playing d19 and pretending it's 2010. Experimenting with design strategies for burrows, layouts for hospital wards, and strategies for defense of the lower reaches.

You seem to suggest addiction to DF is a bad thing, or something to be avoided.

PURGE HIM! PURGE HIM IN THE NAME OF ARMOK TOADYONE!

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I have an idea! We shall find out toady's address (someone in the DF community has to be a stalker, right?), and camp outside his house making really loud noses until the release. Or until the cops come. Whichever.

Hello everyone, my name is Petr Gašparík and I am Dwarf Fortress addict, too.

As you can see, I already lost most of my surname as price of my addiction.

As for therapist session, I recommend dfterm session over fresh new fortress. Seven people per one terminal fortress.
