Weaponsmith is a mood, but there are problems...
« on: March 25, 2010, 05:05:33 pm »

Ok, so my weaponsmith went and claimed a Magma Forge, this has me very exited, then he went and gathered 2 of my 5 iron bars. But I just went to check to see what he's doing, and he wants "Metal Bars" I currently have 3 free iron bars, and 16 platinum bars, he won't use any. What's up with this?

if you have any other ores, smelt them. he may want a specific type of metal bar.

I have only iron and platinum ores, I'm gonna check the map for any exposed veins tho.

Also, check your weaponsmiths preferences, moods are notoriously picky when it comes to metal. Unforbid any other metal bars that you have

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.

I took a look and two things jumped out at me, coal, and lead. I lack both.

My understanding is that if they want a specific metal, they'll ask for it by name, but it MIGHT depend on the mood. The only one I've seen it in is a standard fey mood. There's nothing else he's asking for?

I don't know where you got that info, but fey moods just say that they demand metal bars, not the specific kind of metal. Which is why you can usually control what metal they pick first by forbidding metal bars, but occasionally you will have the stubborn dwarf who wants that copper bar and not the nice shiny steel bar no matter what.

So, my weaponsmith took 2 iron bars and 1 (puppy) bones total, let's see what he makes...

EDIT:: This is an iron mace. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of iron. This object is adorned with hanging rings of iron. On the item is an image of Birchs in dog bone.

EDIT2:: This is my first artifact ever, needless to say, I will be training a Legendary Macedwarf, and I will be giving him this weapon. Out of curiosity, how much damage should this do?

He got the metal he needed, but you had no bones at the time. so he began repeating ALL of what he needed, metal bars included

Out of curiosity, how much damage should this do?

LOTS considering its iron. I think (Maybe its hiding on the wiki?) that no one knows the exact damage multiplier for artifact weapons/armor, but its reeeeeally high. Your mace is probably better than a masterwork steel one, but i'm not sure.

I had a metalsmith get possessed a while back and I remember he specifically asked for nickel, so maybe it depends on the mood?

The multiplier for artifacts is the same as masterwork, so 2x the damage and skill modifier of a no quality iron mace.  Thats roughly equivalent to a steel mace with 3 levels of quality, I think.  So not bad but artifacts aren't particularly special in this version, sadly.

To answer this thread, mood dwarves will always ask for items he has IF they are missing at least one. If they wants metal bars, bone, shell, and kitten tears, but you're out of shell, they'll keep asking for more kitten tears.

And then it's pretty much a normal fortress from then on.
I find the idea of a normal fortress amusing.
