So what your saying is that the main advantage to there being a fire is that I won't get another fire in a while...Sort of redundant, but gives me an idea for THE MOST AWESOME TRAP OF ALL TIME!!! People like to brag about there cute little lava traps, I think setting the entire landscape on fire would be more effective.

This is the hubris that destroyed Boatmurdered.
Correction, that's hubris that built Boatmurdered.

Pretty much everything else that could go horribly wrong got in a few whacks at bringing it down, though.

They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.
... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.

You know, this reminds me of playing Dungeon keeper 2. Digging underground, the not total control of creatures-just tell them what to do, and the fact that I can't get disco inferno out of my head.

BURN! BABY BURN!

your not the only one to come up with the idea.  I've already built a magma flood system that floods over half my entire map with magma.
its REALLY Fun to use.  ;D

It's worth noting that a large-scale set-the-landscape-on-fire trap will be murder on your CPU since, unlike in the Boatmurdered days, flows are fully modelled now instead of just floodfilling.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

max , i think you never got the most commonest problem , it involves a death , then all your dwarfs come running out to get the dead guys stuff , with the entire landscape is on fire , then the dwarfs are going to be on fire , unless you take extreme precautions to prevent anyone from running out

Well, Ze, I found that option that forbids dwarves from going outside, so I make use of this function during a siege, and let the dead be collected after the goblins have gone away or are dead. For a while that was only half effective, until I channeled the roof of my entrance to make my traps count as being outside.

It works for me!

There are many issues with this statement.

OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT THAT ONE.
It's also good for getting rid of flammable garbage if you leave it in your quantum garbage pile.

that leads to another problem : ENTRANCE DANCING , they basically go outside , realise they are supposed to be inside , when they go inside , they realise they are supposed to be outside collecting socks, repeat , until fire or enemies cut the face outta him

the better option is to set all "dropped" items to auto-forbid. and all corpses. and turn "no refuse gathering outside" on unless you have a really good reason not to.
